SCID inmates donate to Big Brothers/Big Sisters b +] Superintendent Thomas Lavan ‘announced recently the L.LF.E. Association presented a check for $2,500 to Big Sisters of Philadelphia, Inc. in support of at-risk girls. The funds were raised by inmates who partici- pated in the association's 21st annual Run-A-Thon. Inmates who earn as little as $12 a 4 { month in inmate wages, sacri- = ficed and gave from their hearts by purchasing candy, because ‘they wanted to be part of this ‘worthy humanitarian cause. A total of 85 inmates participated in the actual Run-A-Thon, run- ning 1,790 laps, which is equiv- alent to 716 miles around the prison’s makeshift track. The Dallas L.I.F.E. Association was founded in 1975 by a small group of inmates who were sen- tenced to the rest of their lives in prison. These men, recognizing they owed a huge debt to society as a result of mistakes made in their life, decided to create a ve- hicle through which they could begin to repay some of that debt. The Dallas L.I.LF.E. Association was the result.
