The Dallas Post Dallas, PA December 20, 2001 11 THE DALLAS POST Section 2 Lehman takes Invitational title By JOE PETRUCCI Special to The Dallas Post DALLAS — Without an indi- vidual champion, the Lake- Lehman Black Knights, who garnered one second place, three thirds, two fourths and a pair of fifths, won the Times Leader Invitational Wrestling Tournament for the first time in the event's 16-year history. With 192 points, Lake- Lehman outdistanced its near- est competitor, Wyoming Valley West, by a whopping 47 points. ® Palisades was third (142), Coun- cil Rock fourth (141.5) and Mey- ers fifth (138) in the tourna- ment, formerly known as the Mountaintop Invitational. This year’s event was held Friday and Saturday in the Anderson Cen- ter on the campus of College Misericordia. Lehman, which led by just 11 points after Friday's first day of competition, placed 10 Black Knights in Saturday morning's quarterfinals. After a bleak showing there, many of them wrestled all the way back to pick up valuable points for placing. “This sort of has me in awe,” Lehman coach Phil Lipski said. “It's quite humbling to know a. team like this can control a tournament. With the top quali- ty teams and individuals here, to have no gold medals and still take home the team title trophy is a tribute to the entire pro- gram.” The lack of individual champi- ons was part of a day where anything seemed possible. Lehman's Willie Weber, the fifth seed, was one of a handful of lower seeded wrestlers — the 15th, ninth and seventh seeds in different brackets were the others — to make it to the fi- nals. Weber took second as he was pinned in the 152-pound ti- tle bout by Council Rock's Jon Kokinda.
