Local natives become tournament bridge Life Masters While playing bridge at the Lancaster Red Rose Regional bridge tournament from Oct. 29 through Nov. 4, Richard and Jane (Coolbaugh) Plummer achieved the rank of Life Mas- ter. This is the highest rank available to tournament bridge players and status is attained in bridge competition at various levels. Players must earn 300 masterpoints in American Con- tract Bridge League (ACBL) tournaments, ACBL sanctioned duplicate bridge clubs or other ACBL sanctioned events. They have enjoyed meeting ahd making friends with numerous players from the northeastern part of the state including many from the Dallas Bridge Club. This year the Plummer’s have played in 22 tournaments in nine states as well as in Toron- to to accumulate 222 master- points apiece, including 74 gold points. They are currently ranked number 3 and 4 in the world for the most masterpoints earned this year as -Section Masters, which was their rank- ing at the start of the year. They attribute their success to the many outstanding partner- ships they have been able to arrange for team events such as Knockouts, Swiss Teams and Board-A-Match. They placed first in their past four consecu- tive = Board-A-Match events played at Hunt Valley, Mary- land and Lancaster, Pennsylva- nia. Their highest award re- ceived for any single event was. 10.47 gold points while playing at Greenville, SC in a 16 team (of four) Knockout match with Martha (Croop) Spalding, a Lehman High School graduate as well as Jane's good friend and classmate. Martha is a Sil- ver Life Master and has retired in Atlanta. Jane is a Registered Nurse who graduated from Lehman High School and the Kingston Nesbitt Hospital Nursing pro- gram. Dick graduated from Forty Fort High School, and holds master degrees from Drexel University (MSEE) and University of Pennsylvania (MSCIS). They are retired and have lived in their Valley Forge home for 38 years. Jane worked for the Chester County Visiting Nurses Association and became a Board of Directors member of that group after she retired. Dick worked for GE and served Richard and Jane Plummer as the President of both the IEEE Age Discrimination Com- mittee and the Valley Forge As- sociation of General Electric Engineers and Scientists.
