The Kingston Township Board of Supervisors announce the ar- rival of the Annual Holiday Homes Decorating Contest to be judged on Dec. 18. The Holiday Homes = Decorating Contest is sponsored annually by the board of supervisors and judged by the recreation commission. The deadline for registering is Dec. 14, at 4:30 p.m. Zoning hearing on former school The Kingston Township Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing concerning the rezoning of the Westmoreland School property on Lehigh Street, Trucksville, on Wednes- day, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kingston Township Municipal meeting room at 180 East Cen- ter Street, Shavertown. The pro- posal is to rezone the property to Neighborhood Commercial (B-1) and convert the building for pro- fessional offices. Interested per- sons are invited to attend the public hearing. Joan Harris dancers to present “Santa’s Holiday Hop” The sights and sounds of the holidays will be depicted in dance, as students from the Joan Harris Centre’s Dallas Campus presents its annual winter celebration. The performances are scheduled for Sun- day, Dec. 9 at the Irem Temple Auditorium in Wilkes-Barre and will feature both traditional and favorites and contemporary renditions of the music that defines what is in the hearts of everyone this time of the year. Barbershoppers to present Christmas concert “A Beautiful Christmas” Concert wil be presented by the Wyoming Valley Barbershop Harmony Chorus, Wilkes-Barre Chapter, Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). The concert is set for Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Wyoming Ave. in West Pittston. Luminary display planned The Back Mountain Catholic Youth Council and the Shaver- town Fire Department invite res- idents of the Back Mountain Community to join together on Christmas Eve in a “Lighting of the Luminaries” and a Prayer for World Peace. The tradition of lighting lumi- naries in front of homes and along driveways (votive candles placed in a small bag anchored with sand) goes back 2,000 years, when shepherds marked the way to the manager of the Christ Child with small bonfires. The Shavertown Fire Depart- ment and the youth council members are selling luminary packets (includes 12 votive can- dles, 12 small bags, packet of sand and World Prayer for Peace) on the three weekends before Christmas. Packets cost $5 each. Shavertown Fire De- partment will be selling in front of Thomas’ Family Market, Shavertown.
