The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, November 22, 2001 7 Call Ahead Kindergarten (continued from page 1) much children can learn when they are having fun, which is a growing theme in the Dallas School District. After the students’ perfor- mance, one table close to the cookies and punch filled with smiling ‘and giggling girls. Sin- cavage joined her friends Kelly Jacobs, Vanessa Parsons, Erin Muldoon and Elizabeth Dillon for a treat. Her mother and grandmother were a little sur- prised she went straight to her friends before visiting with them. But her mother realizes that her very independent 5-year-old feels comfortable in school and with all her new friends. Kelsie made the adjustment to kinder- garten well, her mother said. At the first parent-teacher conference, Deneen Sincavage was very pleased with her daughter's report. “She raises her hand and asks questions. I thought she'd be more shy,” her mother said. Kelsie’'s mother has noticed a few differences in her behavior since she started kindergarten. “She’s maturing a little bit. And she’s always writing or drawing.” Probably the most rewarding thing for Kelsie’s mother is see- ing her beginning to read. “She really likes to read. She’s begin- ning to recognize words and learn what sentences are.” As Kelsie and her classmates enjoy their first Thanksgiving break from school, they will be telling different stories at the dinner table this year. They will talk about their new friends and show off some of their newly ac- quired knowledge through songs and poems. Kelsie has some big plans of her own for the holiday. “Eat turkey and go to Nanny’s,” she said. Pick me!
