Kanios, 81, of Jackson Road, Lehman Township, died Friday Nov. 9, 2001 at her home. Born in Wyoming, she was a gradu- ate of the Wyoming schools. She attended St. Therese's Church, Shavertown, Kingston Township. She was preceded in death by her - husband, Walter J.; and brother, Stanley Zamoraski. Surviving are her sons, James, Waterbury, Conn.; and Thomas, Lehman Town- ship, with whom she resided; daughters, Mary Stucker and Bernadette Frostbutter, both of Staten Island, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. GILBERT IDE Heavy equipment operator for Sordoni Construction Company Gilbert H. Ide, 96, of Idetown, Lehman Township, died Wednesday Nov. 7, 2001 at ManorCare Health Services, Kingston. Born June 15, 1906 in Loy- alville, he was a son of the late Silas and Eudora (Albertson) Ide. He attended the White Ele- phant Schoolhouse at Loyalville and was a 1926 graduate of Kingston High School. He also attended Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, after graduation. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Sordoni Construction Co., Forty Fort, and member of the Operators Engineers Union for 64 years. He worked on sev- eral buildings in the Valley, such as The Boston Store, The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center building, North Main Street, Plains Township, the RCA building, Mountaintop, and he raised the letters on top of the Hotel Sterling. During the war years, he worked at Ameri- can Car & Foundry, Berwick, where they made army tanks. He took flying lessons ‘and earned his pilot's license. He was a member of the Loyalville United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school superintendent and taught the adult class for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Pearl Baer; daughter, Mildred Thomas; brothers, Linford, Donovan, Marion and Wilford; and sisters, Elthera Glassford and Margaret Bonta. Surviving are his son, David O., Idetown; daughters, Lois Hughes, Dallas; and Rita, Eng- land; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was born in Plains Township, son of the late W. Goledge and Gertrude (Mc- Carty) Hilburt, and was a grad- uate of the Class of 1941, James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Follow- ing his military service, he, joined the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department, serving at En- gine House No. 5 in the North End section of the city for more than 20 years, retiring in 1971. He was then employed by the First Eastern Bank, Wilkes- Barre, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Memorial Presby- terian Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he had been a deacon, el- der, Sunday school superinten- dent, member of the Stewart Bible Class and had served on the Church Session for many years. He was. a former Cub Master with Cub Pack No. 98, Wilkes-Barre, and had been a volunteer with Penn's Woods Council, Girl Scouts of America. He had also volunteered with the United Way of Wyoming Val- ley and was a member of the NEPA Heart Association, the Zipper Club and RSVP. He was preceded in death by a grand- son, Jeffrey Hilburt.
