Suads Dallas passes tough test with OT win The first round of state playoffs proved to be the most difficult of the season for the Dallas soccer team. @ Ryan Love scored with 2:41 left in overtime to give the undefeated Moun- taineers a 2-1 victory over a stubborn Danville team. The game was played at Hughesville Tuesday night, giving Danville a home-field advantage. Love's goal followed an apparent game-winner for Danville that was called back for offsides. Paul Shiber scored the first Dallas @ off an assist from Eric Baltimore. Dallas had 17 shots on goal while holding Danville to 12 in an even con- test. Goaltender Jon Pall recorded seven saves. The Mountaineers almost avoid- ed the overtime, scoring at 43 minutes , then keeping the Ironmen out of the goal until the 77th minute. Dallas will play Middletown Saturday at a site to be announced. SPORTS ROUNDU P Berwick wins after first half stalemate After a scoreless first half in which neither team mounted a scoring threat, Berwick’'s offense outplayed Dallas in the second half to give the Bulldogs a crucial win. Berwick scored two touchdowns in ghe third quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Dallas answered in the fourth quarter with a 14-yard touchdown pass from guarterback Chuck Suppon to Blake Saba. . The extra point attempt was blocked, leading to a score of 14-6 with 8:46 left in' the game. Unable to score again, Dallas left the field with a disap- pointing defeat. Suppon was 11-of-17 for 106 yards. alle was sacked eight times by the ®crvick defense. Dallas completes its regular season play with a record of 7-3 overall (3-2, division). The Moun- taineers and Bulldogs meet again on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a District 2 Class 3A playoff game to be played at Crispin Field in Berwick. Lake-Lehman falls e1ard to Pittston Kept out of the game until the fourth quarter, Lehman ran out of time to overcome a 35-0 deficit. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Zach Ragukas connected with Jim Mahon to put Lehman on the scoreboard. When the two-point conversion attempt failed, the game ended with a score of 35-6. Ragukas was 8-of-19 for 54 yards. Lehman ends the regular season with a record of 3-7 overall (1-4, division). SOCCER Dallas 3, Lake-Lehman 1 After a scoreless first half, Angelo Recchia, assisted by Ryan Love, scored for Dallas with 33:16 left in the game. Ryan Rother added a second goal for the Mountaineers, with 12:51 left on the time clock, giving Dallas a 2-0 lead. With 7:22 left, Aaron Moyer scored, keeping the Black Knights in the game. Ricky Branco scored the third and final goal for Dallas, sealing the victory. Dallas dominated shots on goal, 16-6. Roger Vrhel of Lehman had 13 saves. After coaching for nine years, this was the last game for Lehman's head coach, Mark Stroney. FIELD HOCKEY - Wyoming Seminary 2, Lehman 1 In a disappointing defeat, Lehman was unable to respond to a second goal by Wyoming Seminary. Both teams were scoreless in the first half. The Lady Black Knights gave up an early goal, then scored twice in a five minute span to take a 2-1 lead until there was only 6:02 left in regulation. Carla Chiampi and Lisa Wasser scored the first two Lehman goals. Lake-Lehman (19-2) will play Christopher Dock Mennonite, the Dis- trict 1 champion, Saturday, at a site to be determined. Christopher Dock was a 2-1 winner over Northwestern Lehigh Tuesday. Slocum’s goal play leads Pocono Pirates Ricky Rose, Shavertown, and Eric Wroblewski, Dallas, each scored a goal in the Pocono Pirates Pee Wee 8-0 ice hockey victory over the Pottstown Pen- guins Oct. 28. Drew Slocum earned the shutout in goal, turning away five shots. Slocum was also in goal for the Pirates the previous day, notching 29 saves in a 4-2 Pirates win over the Delaware Junior Blue Hens. f
