Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Frances (Johns) Markle. She attended the former Kingston High School and Wyoming Seminary Business School. She was a secretary for Conyngham Es- tates, Wilkes-Barre, before re- tiring. She was a member of Forty Fort United Methodist Church and past president of + the former Widow to Widow Club. She was also a member of the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Women's: Auxiliary and formerly volunteered at the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Jeffery; second husband, James F. Besecker; sisters, Ruth Ringstron, Lorretta Prichard, Hazle Walker, Mabel Witt, Frances Stouch and Janet Markle; stepdaughters, Beverly Craig and Virginia Nichols; and stepson, Delmar Besecker. Born Dec. 30, 1935 in Newark, N.J., he was a son of the late Raphael and Mary Grace (De- Lorenzo) Mercurio. He was a bartender at the Prince Hotel, Tunkhannock, for many years. He was awarded recognition for being in the 200, 300, and 500 Club for bowling. Born January 31, 1958, David grew up in Dallas and was a graduate of Dallas High School. He studied at the Colorado School of Mines, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering. He received a Master of Business Administration degree in 1984 from Southern Methodist Uni- versity. He joined Phillips Petro- leum in 1979 as an engineer. He was. assistant treasurer and di- rector of risk management; then senior vice-president, treasurer and chief financial officer of GPM Gas Corporation. In 1994 he was elected vice president and transferred to Houston, where he was responsible for the com- pany’s worldwide plastics opera- tions. In 1999 he was named Phillips’ chief economist. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, served on the Girl Scout Board, was chair- -man of the National Risk Man- agement committee, and was a member of the finance and In- vestment committee of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi fraterni- ty.
