Jeremy SPORTS ROUNDUP SOCCER Dallas 7, Valley View 0 The Mountaineers cruised through the first round of playoffs last Friday with a commanding victory over Valley View. Ricky Branco scored a hat trick, and Ryan Love scored two goals for Dallas. Eric Baltimore and Murray each added a goal, and Andrew George had two assists. Dallas dominated shots on goal, 38-5. Lake-Lehman 3, Honesdale 1 The Hornets were scoreless in the first half, while Dave Walters and Nathan Carsman each scored for the Black Knights, resulting in a 2-0 halftime lead. After Honesdale scored their lone goal, Carsman scored again for Lehman to seal the victory. Lehman dominated shots on goal, 22-11. FIELD HOCKEY Lake-Lehman 4, Lackawanna Trail 0 Remembering last year’s loss to Lackawanna Trail in the district semifinals, the Lady Knights made sure history did not repeat it- self. Joelle Lussi and Meredith Edwards scored goals in the first half, giving Lehman a 2-0 halftime lead. Lisa Wasser scored first in the second half followed by a second goal by Lussi to seal the shutout. CROSS COUNTRY District 2 Cross-Country Championships Coming in second place behind Scranton Prep, the Lake- Lehman cross-country team qualified for the PIAA Championships on Nov. 3 in Hershey. Individually, three Lehman runners also qualified: Brad Baird who finished third with a time of 16:59, Kel- by Morgan who finished 15th with a time of 17:43, and Ryan Post who finished 16th with a time of 17:44. The theme for the contest is: “Ways that I can promote hunt- ing.” The prize list features grand-prize winners in the ju- nior (ages 12-15) and senior (ages 16-18) divisions taking ex- pense-paid trips to Texas and Wyoming. The junior division grand-prize recipient will attend Safari Club International's (SCI) Apprentice ‘Hunter Camp at the YO Ranch in Texas. The senior division grand-prize winner will receive a scholarship to SCI's American Wilderness Leadership School in Jackson, Wyoming. Both of these prizes are being sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chapters of Safari Club International. First prize in the junior divi- sion will be a scholarship to the National Wild Turkey Federa- tion's Conservation Field Day event in Edgefield, South Caroli- na. Frances Slocum deer hunt Dec. 3 The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) will conduct a regulated deer hunt at Frances Slocum State Park, Luzerne County, December 3, to help control the deer popula- tion within the park. The one-day hunt is for whitetail deer only, and will be conducted in areas not normally open to hunting. To ensure the safety of all park visitors, the park will be closed to all other activities this day. To participate, hunters must hold an unfilled Luzerne county antlerless license. Only manually operated shotguns 20 gauge or larger, or muzzleloading firearms will be allowed. The hunt will be limited to the first 40 hunters that arrive at the park starting at 6 a.m., and will not be chosen by lottery drawing as previous years. Safety zones, no hunting areas, and park boundaries will be post- ed and strictly enforced.
