POST PHOTOS/JIM PHILLIPS Cyclones go 1-for-2 over the weekend The Back Mountain Cyclones suffered their first loss of the sea- son, narrowly losing to the Bloomsburg Pound Dogs 1-0 on Satur- day at Bloomsburg. Back in good form on Sunday, the Cyclones defeated Hazleton 4-0. Mike Eckman had two goals and David Zurek had two assists, while Tim Ropel had both an assist and a goal. Mike Ryan had the last goal on a pass from Colin Grube. FIELD HOCKEY Lake-Lehman 2, Crestwood 0 In a crucial victory, the Lady Knights’ defense shut down the undefeated Comets. Goalie Tra- cy Hudak had seven saves. Joelle Lussi, assisted by Lisa Wasser, scored the only goal of the first half. In the second half, Amanda Sagan scored, assisted by Carla Chiampi, to seal the victory. Lehman outplayed Crestwood in shots on goal (10- 7). Wyoming Seminary 1, Dallas 0 Despite 19 shots on goal, the Lady Mounts could not answer a second half goal by the Lady Knights. Rosalyn Wentko had eight saves. Lake-Lehman 4, Honesdale 0 The Lady Knights took a 1-0 first half lead with a goal by Meredith Edwards. Amanda Sagan and Megan DeCasaris each scored a goal in the sec- ond, followed by another goal by Edwards, completing the 4-0 shutout. Carla Chiampi had two second-half assists. Lake- Lehman dominated shots (25-1) and corners (22-2). Delaware Valley 2, Dallas 1 In the first half, Caitlin Dukas answered the first Delaware Val- ley threat with a goal for Dallas, tying the game at 1-1 at half time. But the Lady Mounts were unable to match a second Delaware Valley goal in the sec- ond half. Dallas had 14 shots on goal, and goalie Rosalyn Wentko had 7 saves. Lake-Lehman 3, Northwest 0 Moving their record to 14-1 overall, Carla Chiampi and Megan DeCasaris scored in the first, and Lisa Wasser added the final blow in the second. Each of the three girls, all midfielders, also had an assist. Regular sea- son play ends Friday with a showdown between Lehman and Wyoming Seminary. Since Sem tied with Crestwood on Monday, Lehman will take the division ti- tle with a win or a tie. Dallas 4, Montrose 0 Kelly Brzozowski and Shan- non Thomas each scored a goal in the first half, giving the Lady Mounts a 2-0 halftime lead. Jackie Hardwick and Caitlin Dukas each added a goal in the second half to complete the shutout. Dallas out shot Mon- trose 27-4. CROSS COUNTRY Lake-Lehman 18, GAR 37 With five of the top six finish- es, the Black Knights passed by the Grenadiers. Ryan Post was first with a time of 15:59. He was joined in victory by Kelby Morgan (16:01) in second, Greg Kostrobala (16:10) in fourth, Brad Baird (17:07) in fifth, and Corey Norton (17:22) in sixth. VOLLEYBALL Bishop O’Reilly 2, Dallas 1 Splitting the first two games, 5-15 and 15-8, the Lady Mounts lost the tiebreaker, 1-15. Kristen Vodzak contributed 4 points and 4 kills, Nancy Levinson added 7 points, April Piazza scored 7 points, Samantha Oschman had 5 points and 5 digs, and Erika Kelleher posted 6 points and 3 digs. TENNIS Valley West 4, Dallas 3 The Lady Mounts, unable to win a crucial fourth point, were defeated by the Spartans. Of their three points, two came in singles matches won by Carla Blase (6-3, 6-3) and Jenn Toth (6-1, 6-3). The additional point was a win ‘by Toth/Samanas (7- 5, 6-2) in doubles. Wyoming Seminary 6, Dallas 1 The lone Dallas point came from a singles win by Brooke Blase (6-3, 6-2). GOLF O’Reilly 165, Dallas 179 In this defeat for Dallas, Mike Fehlinger and Zach Turchin tied at 42, followed by Ryan Dim- mick at 47 in a match played at the Wilkes-Barre Golf Club, par 36. Pirate Pee Wees sweep weekend set The Pocono Pirate Pee Wee A team opened its DVHL season with a pair of wins. On Oct. 13, the Pirates beat the Hershey Jr. Bears 4-1 “at the Ice box in Pittston. On Oct. 14 the Pirates beat the Gladiators in Voorhees N.J. In Saturday’s win, Max Van Gorder had 2 goals and 1 assist; Eric Wroblewski (Dallas), and Kenny Suchoski added goals, with 2 as- sists from Nick Zaino (Duryea), and 1 assist from Brian Higgs. De-. fensively the Pirates were led by Jim Hockenburry, Alan Ready andi goaltender Drew Slocum (Shavertown) with 23 saves. In Sunday’s win Suchoski led the scoring with 2 goals, single goals were added by Wroblewski and John Nugent, and Van Gorder added 3 assists. Goaltender Drew Slocum got the win again with 21 saves with help from Cole Lukacinsky, and Caitlin Riley. Also contributing for the Pirates was Ricky Rose (Shavertown).
