Born June 27, 1921, in Hunlock Creek, she was a daughter of the late Grover and Myrtle (Cra- gle) Nevel. She worked for many Hanover Township. She attended the Roaring Brook Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Yvoncq; sisters, Bernice Hamilton, Iva Cragle, Zelda Garnet and Grace Baer; and brother, Grover. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Espos- ito, Norwalk, Conn.; Karen White, Greenfield, Mass.; Lor- raine DeWitt, Dallas; and Ann Ramos, North Carolina; sons, Vaughn, Bridgeport, Conn.; Robert, Nanticoke; and Alfred, Hunlock Creek; six grandchil- dren; and brother, Robert, Hun- lock Creek. SUSIE GULA Shavertown resident and great-grandmother to 10 Susie Gula, 83, of North Memorial Highway, Shavertown section of Kingston Township, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at her home. Born in Elys- burg, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Blecker. ‘She attended the Elysburg schools. She worked in the housekeeping department - of Leader West Nursing Center, Kingston, before retiring. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, formerly St. John Nepomucene Church, Luzerne. She was pre- ceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John; daughter, Anna Mae Lorentz; sister, Rose Dup- nock; and brothers, George and John. Surviving are her daugh- ‘ters, Rose Marie Medash, Ben- salem; and Suzanne Giarratano, Pittston; son, John, Jr., Dallas; 14 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren; and sister, Mar- garet Blecker, Elysburg. Thomas, 56, of Outlet Road, Lake Township, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at Hospice Community Care Inpa- tient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes- Barre, she was a daughter of Mary (Yakobitski) Vitkowski, Kingston, and the late Benjamin Vitkowski. She was a graduate of Larksville' High School. She was a custodian for the Lake-Lehman School District at the high school building. Surviving are her son, Joncq A., Gaithersburg, Md.; daughters, Donna Sayre, Har- veys Lake; and Kimberly Fox, Kingston; five grandchildren; brother, Benjamin, Plymouth; and sister, Marlene Roccograndi, Larksville. CATHERINE PICKETT Meadows Nursing Center resident Catherine Pickett, 89, of Barry . Street, Courtdale, formerly of Kingston, died Monday, August 20, 2001 at Meadow's Nursing Center, Dallas, where she was a resident. Born in Luzerne, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Agnes (Arbasaukas) Krischunas. She was a 1931 graduate of Kingston High School. She was a member of Courtdale United Methodist Church and Queen Esther Chapter 170 Order of the Eastern Star. She did volunteer work for Nesbitt Memorial Hos- pital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander; brothers, John, Tony, Stanley and Christian; and sisters, Sally Bedro, Anna Nicholas and Flo- rence Curtis. Surviving are her sisters, Veronica Bierly, Dallas Manor; and Amelia Solano, Courtdale; and many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service will be at the convenience of the family. Rende, 73, passed away at Raleigh Community Hos- pital on August 22, 2001, follow- ing a cancer related illness. Tony was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Ralph Rende and Mary Quigg Rende. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and following his dis- charge spent over thirty years of his business career with Lorillard Company. In his sales manage- ment role he had responsibility for their import operations, and in his last assignment managing their northeast region, residing in Dallas, Pa. Post Lorillard he worked for Lamar Advertising in Lakeland, Fl. His primary retire- ment years were spent in Somers Point, N.J. and most recently Fuquay Varina, N.C., enjoying his passions for fishing, garden- ing and cooking, along with his efforts in support of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Eleanor Chadwick Rende; his daughter Geraldine, son-in-law Robert and grandchildren Ryan and Justin of Lancaster, Pa.; son Thomas, and fiance’ Davida -of Philadel- phia, Pa.; and son Douglas, daughter-in-law Mary and grand- children Chadwick, Jonathan and Elliot of Holly Springs, N.C. Before retiring, she was employed as a licensing agent for the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission at Pocono Downs, Plains Township. She was - a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Dallas Chapter 396. She was preceded in death by her son, W. Dean Johnson; brother, Russell A.
