Born*May 31, 1922, in Allport, he was a son of the late William and Hannah (MacDonald) Shields. He worked at the Ameri- can Store Co., Wyoming, and for L.T.V. Steel Co., Buffalo. He lec- tured for Alcoholics Anonymous in New York and Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Army veteran of ~~ World War II, serving as a can- noneer at the Panama Canal. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret Martel; brothers, Lester, James and Eldin; and sisters, Martha, Helen Whitinger, Grace McMil- lan, Elma Lagoda and Flora Brennan. She worked at the General Cigar Co. for 40 years. She was a member of the Wyoming Avenue Christ- ian Church, Kingston, and Northway Presbyterian Church, Williamsport. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Devine; second husband, Melvin Evans; and son, Melvin T. Devine.
