"nominee of this The ‘Threshold’ program at Chase Prison is seeking volun- teers for the program beginning in September. Threshold is a decision-mak- ing program which is taught to inmates at the correctional facil- ity in Dallas who are about to be released. The Threshold course is taught by volunteers, on a one-to-one basis over a period of nine weeks. The only prerequi- site to becoming a volunteer is to be a caring person who wants to reach out to someone about to make a new beginning. Misericordia Choral Society seeks members College Misericordia’s Choral Society is looking for new mem- bers. The invitation goes out to members of the community as well as any students, faculty, and staff. No audition is neces- sary. They will be accepting new members until Sept. 18. MOVERS&SHAKERS State Correctional Institution at Dallas (SCI-Dallas) Superin- tendent Ben Varner announces Thomas Lavan, deputy superin- tendent for fa- cility manage- ment, is award- ed the Lifetime Achievement The prestigious iy award must exemplify outstand: ing leadership skills. Lavan entered the Department of Corrections in December 1971 as a correctional officer trainee at SCI-Dallas. Lavan helped to realign the common goals of fundamentals of sound security practices after the SCI-Dallas escape in 1999. He helped to realign the com- mon goals of the Union and management staff, enhancing employee communications while maintaining his sense of humor. Lavan served four years as part of the U. S. Navy. He at- tained the rank of second class petty officer. During his Navy ex- perience, he was awarded the good conduct Medal, as well as ‘the National Defense Medal. Lavan has been a devoted ‘husband and father to Marilyn, his wife of 41 years, and: their - children, Thomas and Karen. (1 1] Nita C. Natividad, MD, asso- ciate in radiation oncology with the Geisinger Medical Group in Wilkes-Barre, was notified by the American Board of Radiology that she has passed the re-certi- cial events, the completion of fication examination in radiation oncology. Central Pennsylvania Oncology Group, Dr. Natividad received her Doc- tor of Medicine from the Univer- sity of Santos Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She completed her therapeutic radiology residency at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York City.
