) Shrimp, sausage sandwich will spice up Food Booth By M.B. GILLIGAN Dallas Post Correspondent The Food Booth is always a major attraction at the Library Auction and this year will be no exception. The members of the Dallas Rotary Club are once again in charge of organizing the booth. “We used to man the booth every night but our membership has dropped from a high of 54 in 1988 to 32 members now, so it’s a little more difficult. We'll be working Thursday and’ Friday night. We have some civic groups doing the other nights and we’ll fill in as needed,” said Ron Fitch, food booth coordinator for the organization. The Rotary Club held their weekly meeting at the food booth on June 21. Members cleaned out the booth, checked out the refrigeration service and made sure the grills were all in good working order. When the auction is all over, they will hold a meeting there to clean everything up for another year of storage. The standard hot dogs, hamburg- ers and barbeque sandwiches will be enhanced with a few additions to this year’s menu. “We'll have a deep fried shrimp platter and a sausage patty platter this year,” Fitch said. “They’ll both come with french fries.” Volunteers are always welcome and still needed. “It's easy and fun,” said Fitch. “We need order takers, ticket takers and waiters,” Quite a few members of the club joined in the cleanup activities. “I've been doing this for years,” said George Bacon, who was busy scrubbing off the countertops. The booth is completely washed down before any cooking starts. “I cook the burgers during the auction and, just like any restaurant, it can get pretty greasy,” said Randy “Lloyd. “We got a new exhaust fan a couple of years ago and that makes a big difference.” Jerry Reisch, incoming Rotary president was on hand to help move furniture out of the food booth. “I'm really looking forward to being the club president,” Reisch said. “I think we're going to have a very good year.” On the cover: Steve Traver and Karen Boback took bids at the 1998 auction. h ¥ -— { f ) menu DALLAS POST PHOTO/M.B.
