Kuffner, 65, of the Sweet Valley section of Ross Township, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke. Born March 6, 1936, in Pikes Creek, Lake Township, she was a daughter of the late Perry and Cora (Lord) Hoover. She worked for Common- wealth Telephone Co., Dallas, for 18 years and was an executive secretary for the Ford Motor Co., Detroit, for 21 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, Pikes Creek. She was preceded in death by her hus- band, Victor T.; brothers, Perry, Sheldon and William Hoover. Surviving are her brother, Wayne Hoover, Pikes Creek; sister, Betty Whitesell, Pikes Creek; nieces and nephews. MARIAN STOOKEY Trucksville UM Church member Marian R. Stookey, 94, former- ly of the Trucksville section of Kingston Township, died Tues- day, May 29, 2001 at the Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1906, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Emest and Bessie (McDonell) Rinehimer. She was a graduate of Cough- lin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and Wyoming Seminary Business School. She was a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church for over 50 years, mem- ber of its Womens Society, and also a member and treasurer of the Shavertown Branch of the Nesbitt Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; sister, He- len Edgar; and brothers, John and Ernest Rinehimer. - Surviving are her daughter, Margery Stephenson, Center Moreland; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Alma Balliet, Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Gustave and Josephine Kretchmer. He attended the Dallas Bor- ough School. He was a welder for the Pulverman Co., Court- dale, before retiring. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Re- serves. Surviving are his son, Mark, Dallas; daughter, Kimberly Ann Kretchmer, Shavertown, Kingston Township; and one grandson. DOROTHY WEAVER Music teacher, earned master’s degree at Columbia Dorothy S. Weaver, 91, of Dal- las, died June 3, 2001 at her home. Born Sept. 25, 1909, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daugh- ter of the late Fred and Gertrude (Hangen) Weaver. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, earned her bachelor of science degree in music from Ithaca College in 1937 and her master's degree in music from Columbia University in 1947. She worked as a music teacher. She was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church, Huntsville. Surviving are her sister, Jean Johnson, Dallas; nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, Kingston Township, with the Rev. Dr. Rudolph Libeck officiating. Pri- vate interment will be held in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday. EVELYN FALTZ Served with U.S. Army WAAC Evelyn R. Faltz, 62, of Harveys Lake, passed away Friday morn- ing, June 1. She was born in Plymouth, daughter of the late Fred and. Mary (Hughes) Hules and attended Plymouth area schools. She was a homemaker most of her life, taking jobs as needed to make ends meet. She served with the U.S. Army in the 3rd Platoon Co. B WAAC, sta- tioned in Fort McClellan, Ala., from 1958-1961, where friends who ‘knew her, called her “Lucky”. She was a member of the Sal- vation Army and served as squad leader from 1952 to 1957. Evelyn, having been widowed at a young age, raised her three children in her Wilkes-Barre home. She was a loving woman who never missed a moment of her children’s lives. She served as Brownie Troop leader for Troop 309, leader of Girl Scout Troop 836 and Cub Scout den mother of Pack 99, all of Wilkes- Barre. Evelyn served on numer- ous PTA boards and was a mem- ber of the G.A.R. Memorial High School Band Parents. She attended summer camps, holiday concerts, organized cookie and candy sales and sewed many a Halloween cos- tume. Her husband, Francis J., par- ents, Fred and Mary, brothers, Joseph and Feed, sisters, Catherine Andrews and Mary young preceded her in death. Evelyn is sadly missed by her three children, Patrick, Plains Township; Mrs. Joseph (Frances) McGraw, Hunlock Creek; and Evelyn Jr., Harvey's Lake, with whom she resided. She was “Bubbie” to five grand- daughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are her brother, Mil- ton, Larksville; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. [OsiTuaniEs JOSEPH FAY Navy veteran of WW II Joseph E. Fay, of Sutton Hills, Shavertown section of Kingston Twp., died June 3, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late William Morris and Carolyn (Runner) Fay. He was a graduate of St. John's High School, Pittston, and earned a degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University. He com- pleted advanced management courses and seminars at The American Management Association in New York and at Fels Institute, Philadelphia. He worked for the PA Bureau of Employment Security, Department of Labor and Industry, with assignments as manager of the Pittston and Wilkes-Barre of- fices and the Stroudsburg District. He was regional director of the Williamsport area offices. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, with assignments to the Bureau of Naval Personnel, the staff of The Commandant of the Hawaiian Naval District and aboard the heavy cruiser, Salt Lake City, operating in the Pacific. He helped establish the first Naval Reserve Training Center, Kingston, and retired as a captain in 1972. He was a member of St. Therese's Parish, Shavertown, Navy League, American Legion, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Lehigh University Alumni Associa- tion. He was preceded in death by his brothers, former U.S. Attorney George Morris; and Judge William M.; and sisters, Helen Fay Jordan, Alyss Fay Heeg and Marion Fay Dempsey. Surviving are his wife, the former Marcella McCormick; daughters, Christine Fay and Mar- garet White Fay, both at home; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washing- ton St., Wilkes-Barre, with funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue, Shaver- town. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Town- ship.
