JONES Post Staff DALLAS - One of Ricky Bran- co's mother’s cherished memo- ries is of her son as a toddler running around the house in his diapers kicking a soccer ball. As a junior at Dallas High School Ricky is still running around kicking a soccer ball, “but my parents say I have been kicking around a soccer ball since I could walk.” As a forward for the Dallas High School soccer team, Ricky scored 45 goals and had 17 as- sists during the 2000 season. The rest of the year he plays for the Back Mountain Blast travel team. Bishop Hoban’'s Tony Anzalone will play wide re- ceiver for Catholic Uni- versity of Amer- ica, Washing- ton, D.C. for over 1.000 Tony rushed tony ANZALONE Anzalone will play for Catholic U 11 receptions for 220 yards and a game high for 153 yards. Tony played most of the season as quarterback obtaining 792 yards rushing. “Catholic will provide me an excellent education in business and law, and I will have my best chance of playing college foot- ball,” Anzalone said. A big three-run bottom of the third pushed Lake-Lehman to a 3-0 lead that would never be lost. Steven Moyer’s solo homerun was the big blast in the game. Jon Sharkus went 2-2 with a double and a triple and two runs batted in. Charlie Besteder was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings and, striking out five while only giving up one run. Zack Ragukas added a double offensively. Lake-Lehman 3, Wyoming Area 1 The Knights defeated the Warriors for the second time in the week, this time by a score of 3 to 1. Wyoming Area got the first run of the game in the bottom of the third, but two for Lehman in the fifth and one more in the sixth allowed it to escape with the road win. Dusty Kapson finished with two rbi's and a run scored in the game. Zack Ragukas finished with two singles in four at- bats. Winning pitcher again was Best- eder, who gave up one hit in four in- nings. He finished with four strikeouts. SOFTBALL Hanover Area 3, Dallas 0 The Dallas girls could not manage a run in their loss to Hanover Area in ac- tion last week. The Hawkeyes got two runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the fifth to account for the scoring. Meredith Lacey had the Mountaineer hit in finishing 1-3. Hanover Area, 4 Lake-Lehman 3 The Hawkeyes completed their sweep of the Back Mountain squads with a one-run victory over the Knights. Hanover got on the board early, scoring three in the first and one more in the second. Lehman's scoring came in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Tracey Hudak’s homerun. Colleen Ma- hon finished with a double and a triple in three at-bats. Carla Chiampi pitched seven strong innings, giving up just five hits and two earned runs. She struck out six. VOLLEYBALL Lake-Lehman 2, Wyoming Area 0 The Knights romped the Warriors 15- 2, 15-5 last Wednesday on the road. Josh Baranowski had a nice all-around performance, finishing with four kills, nine points including three aces, 16 as- sists, and a block. Matt Dunn had sev- en kills and a block up front, while Josh Gregg ended the evening with four kills and a pair of blocks. Lake-Lehman 2, Nanticoke Area 0 The Trojans offered some competi- tion, but the Knights still held strong 15-8, 15-12. Matt Dunn was big along the front line, tallying 12 kills and eight blocks. Josh Gregg had eight kills and two blocks to complement Dunn's per- formance. B.J. Lewis added 13 assists, and a pair of aces, blocks, and Kills, while Josh Baranowski finished with 15 assists and three kills. Lake-Lehman Boosters golf tournament The Lake-Lehman ‘girls and boys’ basketball boosters clubs will hold the 4th An- nual Golf Tournament June 23, at Four Seasons Golf Club, Exeter. The format is captain and crew, starting at 1 p.m. The cost is $60 per person, which includes the golf cart, meal, and prizes. The tounament is the booster clubs’ main fundrais- er, which pays for summer leagues. Anyone interested in being a ‘hole’ sponsor or participating as a golfer can register by calling Kevin Coombs at 639-2699. DeRojas drives in winning run in 7th to lead Reds MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Reds 10, Yankees 9 Chris DeRojas drove home Andrew Kirk with the winning run with 2 outs in the 7th inning as the Reds nipped the Yankees. DeRojas and Mike Prater, who doubled twice, each had 3 hits for the Reds. Kirk and Mike Dubil each singled twice for the winners. Prater and Greg Harris each struck out 8 Yan- kees. John Ashley ripped 4 hits, in- cluding a double, for the Yankees. Eric Koval had a triple and 2 singles while Robert Smith had 2 singles. Pirates 5, Phillies 3 Peter Steve, Scott Summa and Steven Cornia combined to pitch a 3-hitter for the Pirates. Steve singled 3 times while Brad Fagula collected 2 hits and Cornia doubled. For the Phillies, Billy Holena and Ryan Konopki combined to strike out 9 batters. Richard Jayne con- tributed a double. Orioles 15, Dodgers 7 Tom Parrish batted and pitched the Orioles to victory over the Dodgers. At the plate, Parrish homered, tripled and singled. On the mound, he struck out 9 Dodgers. Josh Clay collected 2 sin- gles and Eric Tucker doubled for the winners. For the Dodgers, John Gi- ampietro blasted a double and 2 singles while Jeff Clemente singled twice. Gi- ampietro and Mike Davies combined to strike out 6 Orioles. Reds 10, Tigers 0 Chris DeRojas pitched a 2-hitter, striking out 7, as the Reds blanked the Tigers. DeRojas also doubled and sin- gled twice to lead the offense. Mike Prater, Greg Harris, Mike Dubil and An- drew Kirk each each had 2 hits for the winners, including a Prater home run and a Harris double. Pirates 11, Red Sox 5 Tom Horn allowed only 1 hit in 4 in- nings on the mound for the Pirates. Michael McAndrew had a double and a single for the winners. A’s 12, Red Sox 7 Robert Hayes and Len Hinson each doubled as the A’s outslugged the Red Sox. Joe Hayes added 2 singles for the winners. Adam Singer and Steven Zubko combined to fan 8 Red Sox bat- ters. Andrew Judge and Cliff Pua- naschi each double for the Sox. A’s 5, Tigers 3 Adam Singer struck out 8 en route to the victory. Robert Hayes ripped a triple and a single while Evan Razawich doubled for the A's. Brian Feleccia slugged 2 doubles for the Tigers. A’s 10, Giants 7 Adam Singer and Robert Hayes each collected 3 singles while teammate Joe Hayes had 2 hits as the A's picked up their third victory of the week. Cody Kustrin banged out 3 hits for the Gi- ants. Mike Zaleskas and Doug Harding added 2 hits apiece. Dodgers 7, Astros 6 Brendan Delaney singled in the win- ning run in the bottom half of the 6th inning as the Dodgers downed the As- tros. The hit was Delaney’s second of the game. Tom Oswalt added a double for the winners. Jeff Clemente and Mike Davies combined to strike out 8 for the Dodgers. Jon Janerich singled twice for the Astros.
