8 Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, May 16, 2001 Lake-Lehman school In two years, Lake-Lehman students can look forward to a combined middle-senior high school, a new gymnasium, new athletic fields and possibly a fieldhouse. The plans for the Lake- Lehman Senior High School ad- ditions and alterations were pre- sented to the public May 1 by Douglas Trumbower of Douglas F. Trumbower and Associates, Inc. Architects and Engineers. The plans show the addition of the middle school section to the existing high school. The other exciting addition to the high school is a new gymnasium. The current debate involves the plans for a possible field house and the athletic fields. The estimated cost for the field- house is $750,000 (5,000 square feet at $150 per square foot.) At the meeting the fieldhouse was purposed to include toilet rooms, locker rooms, one con- cession stand and an officials area. The fall and spring sports would be using the facility and Trumbower recommended a 50 degree temperature for the building in the winter. Angelo DeCesaris, school board president, asked, “Are we just building a big outhouse?” DeCesaris wondered if having the fieldhouse without a weight room was a good idea. The original design for the fieldhouse did include a weight room but was scaled back due to the board's concern of the cost to build a fieldhouse. Trum- bower said he doesn't want the board to be short-sighted about the fieldhouse and later be ask- ing, “Why didn’t we do this.” Another point of debate is the artificial turf on the athletic field which will accommodate foot- ball, soccer and field hockey. The $500,000 price tag for the field also includes grading and under drainage, Trumbower said. He assured : the board maintenance, injury and dura- bility would be the key points of choosing the turf for the field. FBLA (continued from page 1) tem. FBLA helps students devel- op leadership abilities, and pre- pare for entry into, and advance- ment within, a business or busi- ness-related occupation. Mem- bers learn how to engage in business enterprise, how to di- rect the affairs of a group, and how to compete honorably, states the Pennsylvania FBLA website, www.pafbla.org. According to www.pafbla.org, participation in FBLA can have a direct impact on the direction and success of a young person’s career. Millions of students have learned through active member- ship in FBLA about the world of business and what is expected of them in the workplace. Jaime participated in the In- troduction to Business Commu- nications category and Kelly par- ticipated in Business Communi- cations. The students were test- ed on grammar, punctuation, and other business writing skills. Kelly's favorite part about 777 FBLA is the competition, and winning. “At regional we compet- ed against local schools and I placed first,” Kelly said. Technology Concepts is Steve's specialty. He placed third in the state competition at Seven Springs in April. “It has a lot to do with spreadsheeting, net- working and other miscella- neous things,” Steve said. “We all took a multiple choice test and whoever got the most cor- rect won,” he said. For the na- tional competition the top two finishers from each state com- pete. Steve likes FBLA because it gives him a chance to use his computer skills in competition. He hopes to one day become ei- ther a computer programmer or a computer scientist. “We are all proud of our stu- dents’ accomplishments, but es- pecially proud of the students that placed,” said Mrs. Linda Shrader, FBLA advisor.
