The 2001 Fund Drive for Shavertown Volunteer Fire Company is underway. Jerry Paxton has been selected to serve as this year’s chairman. Paxton noted nearly 1,100 fund drive appeal packets were mailed last week. The chairman stressed the importance of the fund drive campaign, “Our members are committed to provide you quality emergency ser- vices. While we do receive some municipal support from Kingston township, our members are charged with the responsibility of gener- ating the remaining revenue through various fund raising activities. It is the generosity of the residents and businesses of Kingston Town- ship that makes volunteer emergency services a viable option in this day and age.” Paxton reflected on the overall community's support of the fire department. “Last year we mailed over 1,000 fund drive ap- peals to the residents and businesses of Shavertown. Less than 52 percent of the residents and businesses supported us. We hope the rate of support improves this year.” he said.
