The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 7, 2001 5 Read (continued from page 1) of kindergarten through third grade and fourth grade through sixth grade. “Mrs. Williams’ second grade class and Mrs. Wilson's fourth grade class read the most at Lehman-Jackson this year,” said Mrs. Attanasio. Last year, the three Lake- Lehman elementary schools, Lehman-Jackson, Lake-Noxen and Ross, read an all-time high of 3,869 books, and they were eager to beat that record this year. Mrs. Cortegerone, one of the coordinators for Read Across America, and Cheryl Summa, the RIF chairperson, proudly re- port that “7,795 books were read by the students this year. Lehman-Jackson students read 3,864 books. Lake-Noxen stu- dents read 2,495 books and Ross students read 1,436 books.” Other educators who helped coordinate the program were Betsy Balonis, kindergarten teacher from Lehman-Jackson; Kathy Becker from Ross, and Patricia Peiffer, reading special- ist from Lehman-Jackson. The PTA's free RIF book distri- bution was made possible by funds raised by the Lehman- Jackson PTA, with major contri- butions from UGI Corporation and special assistance from Sam's Club. “We are so pleased with the improvements of our students this year,” said Mrs. Attanasio. “I think we'll send a copy of this article and pictures to Mrs. Lau- ra Bush at the White House.” POST PHOTOS/SANDY PEOPLES Mrs. Wilson’s fourth grade class winners, from left, seated: Brett Steele, Brad Cease, Jesse Jayne, Will Wilson, Chelsea Sisk, Jessica Shaffer.
