Having recently been accepted to King’s College, I was able to attend Campus Plunge, a pro- gram designed especially for in- coming freshmen. Students ® the night on campus, get- ing acquainted with future classmates. Activities including poetry readings, plays and sporting events make for a unique experience. Each “plunge” (high-school se- nior) is assigned a host, a col- lege freshmen to guide them though the world of academe. arning that I was in fact a full onth older than my host added humor to a situation that could have been rather nerve- wracking. She was courteous and kind, affording me an accu- rate view of life beyond these narrow hallways. A scanty sleeper myself, I was nonetheless surprised by the typical college student's margin- al resting habits. Tired but no less enthused, the next day I sat on classes catered to my ma- jor, which will be English. 1 felt a combined sense of awe and belonging while listening to the professors’ lecturing. I thought of mentors, present and future. Mrs. Sandra Weyman, my teacher, adviser and friend now, is the epitome of everything an English teacher should be, gar- @ ering respect with her skill and amicable nature. Dr. James Wallace, Chairman of the Eng- lish department at King's, is someone I hold in the highest regard. Having taken classes from him before, I am optimistic for what lies ahead. Though I am all too eager to move on, I constantly remind myself to enjoy my life as it is right now. These past four CS have indeed flown; the only advice I can give to anyone, young or old, is to enjoy it while it lasts. Happiness isn’t found in preachy morals or the prospect of newfound freedom, however. It is found in the here and now. It’s easy to subscribe.
