The team’s met Monday night on the Lady Knights’ court. It seemed like more of the same through three quarters, as Lehman took leads of 9-6, 18-16 and 39-31 in the first three periods. ® But Dallas rose to the challenge by scoring 27 points and holding Lehman to 12 in the final stanza. Shannon Thomas led a balanced Mountaineers scoring attack with 13 points. She was followed by Jackie Hard- wick with 12, Stacey Amann with 8, Meredith Lacey's 7 and 6 from Roz Wentko. Halli Williams scored five points, Crystal Heffner chipped in with ) 4 and Ashleigh King scored a pair. Thomas and Lacey each canned a 3- point shot, the only ones in the game. For Lehman, Danielle Kern led the scoring with 19, closely followed by Kari Maskalis with 18. Kieran Lucarino had 7 points, while Lisa Wasser and Gina Coombs scored 3 apiece. The winners & overcame an eight to zero first quarter deficit with an explosive second quar- ter and a strong defense. Alyse Miller had 6 points. Nikki Gelso and Lisa Gi- acometti had 4 points each. Cassie Snider and Megan Savage were high scorers for Eye Care with 12 points and 10 points respectively. Melissa Evans had 8 points for the winners. Robin Hill Florist had well EC balanced offense with Caitlyn McGuire scoring 8 points, Robin Razawich with 7, Kim Durr with 6 and Tiffany Gergel had four. Lehmanis 24-point loss at Ha- zleton last week. Matt Dunn scored 19 points in the game to lead the Knightsi offense. He also went 5-6 from the line. Joe Walko also reached double digits by scoring ten points. Dwayne Kalinay added nine points. Dunn made two three- point baskets in the game and Kalinay had one. Coughlin 80, Lehman 59 Lake-Lehman held tight for three quarters but a ‘dominat- ing performance by Coughlin in the fourth period gave a 21- point victory to the Crusaders. Matt Dunn again led the team in scoring, finishing with 20 points including three three- point field goals. Joe Walko was next with a dozen points. In all the Knights went 18-26 from the foul line. The fourth quarter edge for Coughlin was 30-11. Dallas 73, Pittston 56 The Mountaineers got a strong performance from Chuck Suppon in his return as he scored 26 points and con- verted 6 of 8 foul shots to lead Dallas to a win over Pittston Area. Dallas Knights free throw tournament The Dallas Knights of Columbus Council #8224 invites all boys and girls, ages 10-14, to participate in its annual Basketball Freethrow Tourna- ment, to be held Saturday, Feb. 3, 1 p.m. in the Gate of Heaven gym, Machell Ave., Dallas. This is an annu- al event sponsored by Knights of Columbus councils nationwide. Win- ners of the local contest will receive a trophy and be invited to compete in a regional competition, leading up to state and national contests. DYB 7-8 grade boys tournament The 7th/8th Grade Dallas Youth Basketball Boys Tournament will be- gin at the middle school on Feb. 10. Format in both grades will be four teams, double elimination. teams in 7th grade division are: Dallas, Lehman, St. Mary's Avoca, and Gate of Heaven. First round matchups will pit Dallas against Gate of Heaven and Lehman against St. Mary's of Avoca. The Dallas 7th grade roster is: JJ Durr, Brian Felechia, Jesse Swart- wood, Robbie Tomko, Jeff Decker, Mike Wyberski, Chris Parrish, Nick Samanas, Ben Thomas, and Bobby Lenahan. The team is coached by Tom Swartwood. In the 8th Grade Division, teams are: Dallas, Old Forge, Lehman, and Northwest. In the opening round, Dal- las will play Northwest while Old Forge will play Lehman.
