Meet at the Park & Ride across from the K-mart by Blackmun St. in Wilkes-Barre at 7 a.m. to car-pool and caravan. The trip is free and open to the public. Contact Bob at 829-6230 to register or for more information. Kingston Twp. Christmas tree collection The Kingston Twp. Board of Supervisors has announced the annual Christmas tree collection program will run from Jan. 9 -19. Residents are asked to place trees at curbside for pick-up, which will be between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mon. - Fri. The Twp. Public Works Dept. will collect the trees for mulching. Please remove plastic bags before placing at the curb. Trees may also be dropped off at the composting site behind the Public Works facility. The pine mulch will then be available at the Twp. composting site for pick-up and use by residents. Site hours are Mon. - Fri., 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sat. and Sun. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents with questions may call the Twp. Office at 696-3809. American Legion to hold annual pig roast The Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672 will hold its 41st annual pig roast on Saturday, Feb. 3. The chefs don't roast a whole pig any more, but the menu still includes roast pork, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, salad, dessert, and beverages. Dining will be from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to easy-listening music by the Starfire Band. Noxen-Monroe Sportsmen to meet The monthly meeting of the Noxen-Monroe Sportsmans’ Club will be held Jan.21 at 2 p.m. at the club's hall on Market St. in Noxen Valeski places in Dressage at Devon Melissa Valeski, a student at Borrowdale Acres, Dallas, recently competed at the Dressage at Devon Horse Show in Devon, PA, the highest-rated International Dressage competition held outside of Europe. It is also the most recognized breeding show in America, and attracts top : competitors from across the United States and abroad. Missy Valeski competed her horse "Collective Soul" in the "Suitable to Become a Dressage Horse" class for 3- and 4-year-old horses, which is for suitability to become or produce Dressage horses. Missy and Collective Soul placed 5th out of 29 entries from across the U.S. Collective Soul is a registered Oldenberg, sired by A Crown Court on Night Vixen, and was bred by Ms. Peg Malig Bell, BHSAI, of Borrowdale Acres, Dallas. Missy is the daughter of Frank and Priscilla Valeski of Plains. Back Mt. Senior Citizens meet Jan. 18 The Back Mountain Senior Citizens will meet on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. in St. Therese's Hall on Pioneer Ave. and Davis St. in Shavertown. Birthday honorees will be Mae Pechal, Betty Beline, Genevieve Albosta, and Ann Balavage. Members are asked to bring items to show and tell, such as crafts and unusual items. New members are welcome. En Plein Air Society's Premiere River Exhibit The Pennsylvania Plein Air So- ciety announces its Premiere River Exhibit of drawings and paintings inspired by the Susquehanna River. The group is in the process of depicting the communities, scenery, weather, and seasons of the river from Cooperstown, NY to the Chesapeake Bay. The exhibit will feature scenes along the river in and near the Wyoming Valley. The members of the Pennsylva- nia Plein Air Society are dedicated to painting in the open air. The Society was founded in 1991 by nationally-known artist Sue Hand of Dallas, and has nearly 100 mem- bers from five states. Local members include Sue Hand and Laura Vodzak, both of Dallas; Charles Woodworth, Sue Lowcavage, and Marcie Jones, all of Hunlock Creek; and Ann Searfoss of Carverton. The public is invited to attend the opening reception for the ex- hibit on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Kilburn Room Gallery at Kings College. There will be a gallery talk, "Stories from the River" at 8, which will highlight many of the exhibited paintings. Don Shappelle, a noted Wilkes- Barre musician and songwriter, will perform original songs about the Susquehanna River at the re- ception. The exhibit will run through Friday, Feb. 23. Bowman's Creek Watershed Ass'n meeting The Bowman's Creek Watershed Association will hold its monthly meeting on Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Noxen-Monroe Sportsmans’ Club on Market St. in Noxen. The Bowman's Creek Watershed covers the following municipalities: the towmships of Fairmount, Ross, Lake, Dallas, Franklin, and Harveys Lake Borough in Luzerne County; and the townships of Noxen, Monroe, Eaton, Forkston, North Moreland and Mehoopany in Wyoming County. Scott turns one Avery Lowell Scott, the son of Dan and Joyce Stiefel-Scott of Linthicum, MD, is celebrating his first birthday on Jan. 17. Avery is the grandson of Janice Russell of Lehman, and the late Joyce Nusbaum of Wilkes- Barre. Avery has a brother, Aaron, who is four-and-a-half years old.
