Crossmon. 77, of Thurston Hollow, Tunkhannock, formerly of Noxen, died Dec. 19, 2000 at home. Born March 2, 1923, in Beau- mont, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Decker) Jones. She was a seamstress in several dress factories in the Back Mountain area. She attended the Eaton Baptist Church, Eaton Township. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H.; daugh- ter, Linda, Grady; brother, Robert Jones; and sisters, Eleanor Patton, Mildred Jackson and Betty Jones. Surviving are her son, David W., Factoryville; daughters, Peggy Scranta, with whom she resided; and Emily Zim, Harveys Lake; stepdaughter, Janice Fowler, Eastleigh, England; 10 grandchil- dren, three great-grandchildren; and sister, Emily Lane, Interlachen, Fla. DORA HILLARD Attended Harter High School Dora B. Hillard, 80, died De- cember 23, 2000 at ManorCare Health Services, Kingston. Born Nov. 13, 1920, in Hunlock Creek, she was the daughter of the late George and Madge Leonard Bowman and attended the former Harter High School, West Nanticoke. Before retiring she was em- ployed by Consolidated Cigar Fac- tory, Berwick. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Bowman. Born in Sunbury, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Luczynski) Starr. She was a graduate of Sunbury High School and attended College Misericor- dia. She owned the former Kuehn'’s Rexall Drug Store, Dallas. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. : She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; and sister, Dorothy Starr. . She was a mem- ber of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter D.; brother, Peter; and sisters, Margie Koches and Mary Chismer. STELLA SHURMAITIS Operated Hilltop Inn, Harveys Lake, for many years Stella Shurmaitis, 83, of RD 1, Harveys Lake, died December 22, 2000 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Waterbury, Conn., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Martitius Bartkus. She resided at Toms River, N.J., for many years before moving to Harveys Lake 24 years ago. During World War II, she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She and her husband owned and operated the Hilltop Inn at Harveys Lake for many years before retir- ing. She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Olsen, Pat Reiger, Jay Neilson and Bertha Lawson. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Joseph G.; daughters, Mary Ann Nicosia, Bordentown, N.J.; Linda Shurmaitis, at home; Dawn Shurmaitis, New York City; son, Joseph P., Bear Creek; sis- ters, Helen Colangelo, Oakville, Conn.; Mona Allison, Winsted, Conn.; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment was in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wyo- ming Valley Unit. ANN FUNKE Taught English to military cadets Ann (Booth) Funke, 65, of Leh- man Avenue, Dallas, died Decem- ber 22, 2000 at Geisinger Wyo- ming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Dallas, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Helen (Sensenbach) Booth. She was educated in Dallas schools, and was a graduate of the French Academy of Learning, Ankara, Turkey, and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She worked for the Turkish government as an English instruc- tor to military cadets. Surviving are her husband, F. Joseph; son, Richard Whitlock, York; stepdaughter, Erica Funke, Kingston; and two grandsons. A memorial service will be held at a later date. HELEN STRISH Member of Gate of Heaven Church Helen J.
