Offensive guard Frank Perkoski, fullback Paul Onzik and linebacker Jeff Mattie expect to see action when the sixth-ranked Falcons (10-0) play ninth-ranked Middle Georgia College (9-1) in the Sea Island Company Golden Isles Bowl on Dec. 2 at Brunswick, Georgia. Mattie’s brother Ed was a member of the 1995 LJC team that played at Brunswick in 1995 in the first Golden Isles Bowl. Perkoski, a second-team Northeast Football Conference All-Star this season, was a defensive tackle as a Lackawanna freshman and became the Falcons’ best offensive lineman after the switch, according to head coach Mark Duda. “Switching Frank to the offensive line was the single best move we've ever made here,” said Duda. “Frank brings a defensive lineman’s mentality to the offensive line. He adjusted very well to the challenge of a new position. He's big, fast and strong. I feel he will be playing at a (NCAA) Division 1 school next year.” Duda says Onzik, a first-team NFC All-Star, is the best blocking fullback in Lackawanna’s history. “Paul has a low center of gravity that enables him to get under the opposing linebacker,” says Duda. “He's one of the big reasons our tailback, Alan Jones, was able to rush for 2,069 yards this season. Paul is a workhorse. He also can catch the ball coming out of the backfield.” Onzik has 21 carries for 57 yards and one touchdown as well as four catches for 51 yards. “Jeff Mattie is going to be a good football player,” says Duda. “He’s light but he'll hit you. He's real aggressive like his brother Ed. We've also used him on special teams. We have high hopes for him next year. He's going to benefit from having played behind our three outstanding linebackers.” : All three starting LJC linebackers were NFC All-Stars this season.
