But she had nowhere to keep her prize, until Marie Brokenshire offered space in her barn on West Center Hill Road, Dallas. Brokenshire (continued from page 1) around 5 p.m., she would go into the house to clean up and dress up. She would come out looking like a movie star and go dancing at the Fernbrook Pavilion. In the 1960's, things in Dallas and on the farm began to change. Tremendous growth and develop- r§ menthadbegun. Thearea around : the farm became very busy. The paved, and it became difficult to farm. She was saddened that the farmlands of Dallas were not be- ing preserved. She tried to do her part and hung on as long as she could. Finally, she sold the milk- ing cows and other animals and closed her barn forever. Still, until the day of her recent death at age 85, Marie could still erty, keeping it in pristine condi- tion. She meticulously maintained the exterior of the house and barn, scraping and painting them her- self. She was often seen mowing the grass or raking the leaves. “Marie was a good neighbor. She was one of a kind,” Cindy said. “She was smart, beautiful, feisty, stubborn, and had a great dren and had a deep love and respect for nature. She always said, ‘once the land is gone, it is gone forever.” Marie is a part of the nearly- lost farming history of Dallas. She wanted the history and the name of Orchard Knob Farm to be re- membered, and the friends she made through the years are sure L-L School Board Special Meeting Dec. 3 Notice is hereby given that the Lake-Lehman School Board of Directors will hold a Special Meeting for Reorganization on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Music Room of the Lehman-Jackson Elementary School. The bride is the daughter of Ronald and Elaine Moran of Dallas. She is the granddaughter of Elna and the late Hal Lauridsen and the late Robert and Marie Moran. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Rowett and Mr.and Mrs. Clark VanOrden of Dallas. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Cook of Shavertown and Audrey VanOrden of Dallas. The bride was given in marriagesby her mother and father. Her maid of honor was her sister Jennifer Moran. Bridesmaids were Rebecca Rowett, sister of the groom; Nicole Sisk; Amy Shelley; Susan Crahall; Kim Francis; Gina Blasio and Carla Bove, friends of the bride. Flower girls were Jessica and Katie VanOrden, sisters of the groom. Clark VanOrden, Jr. was the best man for his brother. Grooms- men were David Rowett, brother of the groom; John Romano; Dave Puz; Sean Petracianni; Tom Ladamus; Mark Doherty and Al Brzezinski, friends of the groom. Scriptural readings were narrated by Nancy McDonald, grand- mother of the groom; Frank Paczewski and Robert Connolly. Musical cantor, Alma DeRojas; and organist, Pat Fennell. An evening cocktail hour and dinner reception, hosted by the parents of the bride, was held at the East Mountain Inn, Wilkes- Barre. A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the parents of the groom, was held at Irem Temple Country Club in Dallas. The bride was honored at a bridal shower hosted by Marsha Paczewski, Marilyn Klick and Diane Merrick at Stax & Co. A shower was also given by her bridal attendants at the lake home of Robert and Sandy Richardson. The bride is a graduate of Dallas High School and Ithaca College. JEREMIAH VanORDEN She is a physical therapist at Bryn Mawr Terrace in Bryn Mawr, PA. The groom is a graduate of Dallas High School and Mansfield University. He is a counselor /teacher at Glen Mills School in Glen Mills, PA. After honeymooning at Lake Tahoe, the couple has taken up residence in West Chester, PA.
