The evenly matched statistics were deceiving, as ACC was able to control much of the first half and went into the locker room with a 7-6 lead. But the Dallas defense stiffened to stop ACC on the Mounts' 5 yard line early in the third quarter, setting up the play that set the tone for the rest of the day. Cory Gallant took a handoff from quarterback Chuck Suppon and outran pursuit to score on an 88-yard ramble that broke the Vikings' will. A.J. Harris scored twice for Dallas, once on a 3-yard pass from Suppon and again on a 12- yard run. Shane Schoonover had the other Mountaineer touch- down, hauling in a 31-yard pass. Suppon was 5-for-8 with no inter- ceptions, and gained 16 yards rushing. Gallant finished the day with 149 yards on 16 carries. While ACCracked up 161 pass- ing yards to the Mounts' 93, Dal- las won the ground war, gaining 230 yards to the Vikings' 156. The Mountaineer defense rose to the occasion, recording four sacks that cost the Vikings 23 yards. The offensive line, mean- while, kept Suppon from being sacked.
