Onzik, Perkoski named all-stars Former Dallas Area High School athletes Paul Onzik and Frank Perkoski have been named to the Northeast Football Conference All- Star Team: after. helping Lackawanna Junior College cap- ture its third conference champi- onship in four years. Onzik, a fullback, was selected on the first team. Perkoski was a defensive lineman last season but was switched before the start of this season to shore up the offen- sive line. Coming off a berth in the state semifinals last season with just one senior on the squad, the Dal- las team looked poised to make it at least that far again this season. However, the Lansdale Catholic squad was seemingly more ener- gized and more hungry on Satur- day. Ryan Love scored for Dallas 1 minute and 40 seconds into the game to excite the Mountaineer crowd and more importantly gain control very early in the game. Josh Katyl got the assist in his final game. Lansdale Catholic then tied the game on a shot launched from 47 yards out that somehow got by Nate Hoffman. This goal came with 20 minutes remaining in the half. After the teams switched ends, the game was played evenly. The Mounts had the wind advantage in the second half but never really seriously challenged the goal- keeper until there was under a minute remaining. Dallas had the ball and six players in the box behind the goalkeeper but fired a shot wide of the empty goal. The game winner for the District 1 squad came with 14:49 remain- ing. Dallas had more shots in the game, 14-11. Dallas 2, Danville 1 Missing key midfielder Andrew George, the Mountaineers pulled out a 2-1 victory over Danville in the first round of the state tour- nament last Tuesday at King's College. Adam Clay opened the scoring midway through the first half when he scored unassisted off a direct kick right outside the box. The Ironmen answered with a minute and a half remaining in the first period of play. Then after 40 minutes of back-and-forth ac- tion, captain Josh Katyl came through with two minutes remain- ing in the game to give Dallas the hard-earned 2-1 win. His goal also came unassisted. For all the scoring chances, Dallas getting 15 shots to Danville’s 10, there was only one corner kick in the match, earned by the Mounts. Nate Hoffman made three saves in net to limit Danville to just the one goal. the scoring attack for Wilkes- Barre, with 16 and 20 points re- spectively. Bobby Lenahan fin- ished with 14 points, followed by John Pall Parulski, 8 points, J.J. Durr and Sean McMahon, 2 points apiece. The Prosthetics were led by Chris Kester, 19 points, D.J. Cyclones 2nd in U-10 The Back Mountain Cyclones narrowly missed the championship in the boys A division U-10 league on Sunday. In an extremely close game with the Hazleton Rottweilers that ended in a 2-1 result, the Cyclones consistently outshot their rival, but thanks to the “hot” Rottweiler goalie, were not able to convert to another score. The first half ended in a tie at 0-0. Later in the second half, the Cyclones scored a beautiful goal by Alex Slocum, shot mid-air, after a pass from Tim Ropel. Ryan Shannon and Derek Martin shared the goaltending. Girls basketball clinic at Lake-Lehman ARE The Lake-Lehman Girls Basketball program recently completed its 3rd annual basketball clinic for girls in grades 4 through 8. Fifty four girls attended the camp under the supervision of head coach Rob Wilson. The camp featured fundamentals in passing, shooting, dribbling and defense. The camp, which is a fund-raiser for the girls’ basketball booster club, included 10 hours of instruction, camp T-shirts, and team awards. Assisting in the camp were Brian Coombs and Barry Horvath, assistant high school girls’ coaches; Marcia Levandowski, 8th grade girls’ coach; Bill Boyle, 7th grade girls’ coach; Jim Spencer, boys’ high school head coach; Jim Mahon and Gene Semcheski, PTA coaches.
