It was supposed to be a close game, but Dallas blew out Wallenpaupack 42- 0 Saturday at home. Jeremy Harris scored three times and quarterback Ryan Gryskevicz threw a touchdown strike to Duane Short for another score. POST PHOTOS/JIM PHILLIPS SPORTS ROUNDUP FOOTBALL Williamsport 19, Lehman 7 Williamsport improved to 3-2 on the season with a two touchdown win over the Black Knights Friday night. Josh Kuwaye opened the game's scoring, run- ning in from two yards out during the second period of play. He finished the night with 133 yards on 24 carries. On top of that he caught a pass for 16 yards. The Knights held a 7-0 halftime lead before Williamsport got a touchdown in the third quarter and then two more in the fourth, one coming on a returned fumble. The Knights won the statistical war, outrushing Williamsport 218-188 and outpassing the Millionaires 107-82. Williamsport’s ability to capitalize on field position and turnovers enabled the vic- tory. Dallas 42, Wallenpaupack 0 Jeremy Harris scored three touch- downs as Dallas manhandled Wallenpaupack on Saturday at Moun- taineer Stadium. He had an interception return for a score in the second quarter and then two runs from scrimmage in the third quarter. Duane Short got the scor- ing going in the first quarter when he caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Gryskevicz. Cory Gal- lant scampered in from five yards out in the second quarter to push the margin to 14. Harris then scored three straight touchdowns to put the score at 35-0. Ryan Bolton scored in the fourth quarter for the final touchdown. Brian Vetter, Brian Downey, and John Nackley recov- ered fumbles in the game. Luke Miller added an interception, while Paul Wisnewski had a sack. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Lake-Lehman 25, Hanover 30 Ryan Post set the new record on the Hanover Area course in helping Lake- Lehman earn a tough victory against the Hawkeyes on Wednesday of last week. His time of 16:37 shattered the old mark of 16:53. Kelby Morgan finished third overall and also eclipsed the old record. David Walters and T.J. Dougherty fin- ished in the fifth and sixth positions to earn some crucial middle points, while Ryan McMahon finished in tenth to help the Knights move to 3-0 on the season, heading into this afternoonis showdown with undefeated Dallas. Dallas 19, Nanticoke 41 Junior Peter Miller finished in first place by 40 seconds to push the Mounts past the Trojans in cross country action. Nanticokeis top runner finished second, but then Dallas runners finished in posi- tions three through seven. Matt Mark, Jim Appel, Jerry Appel, Mike Hiscox, and Floyd Mattie finished in that order to earn those positions. This victory sets up this afternoonis showdown between the Back Mountain schools. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Dallas 15, Nanticoke 50 Whitney Adams was the top finisher with a time of exactly 22 minutes in guiding Dallas to an easy win over the Trojans last Wednesday. Jamie Bonzentka (2nd), Jill Youngblood (3rd), Maria Bednash (5th), and Maureen McGuire (6th) also placed for the Mounts. FIELD HOCKEY Lake-Lehman 2, Coughlin 0 The Black Knights got one goal in each half to defeat Coughlin on the road last Wednesday. Allison Bevan scored in the first half, while Corin Smith scored shortly after halftime. Terri Peiffer assisted on both tallies. In all, the Knights outshot the Crusaders 33-7. Janiczek made three saves in net. Wyoming Valley West 3, Dallas 1 Keeper Janel The Mountaineers mustered just six | shots on goal in falling to the Spartans in action last week. Jessica Fields scored the lone Dallas goal, a penalty stroke in the final minute of the game. Melonie Sappe saved eight of eleven shots to keep the contest reasonably close. Dallas 3, Elk Lake 2 Daisy Neiman scored in overtime to give the Mountaineers a very key win in conference play Thursday. Elk Lake then scored twice before regula- , tion ended, forcing overtime. Keeper Melonie Sappe made nine saves in the game. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Lake-Lehman 2, Valley West 0 pe) Sarah Davis hit two aces, had 10 points and 34 digs as the Knights won two close games, 15-12 and 15-10. Kari Maskalis ’ had seven points, five blocks, three kills and 20 digs; Christine Hudak had four aces, six points and 34 digs. Nanticoke 2, Dallas 0 The Lady Mounts couldn't get any- thing going and lost 15-2, 15-8. Kristen Vodzak had five points, three kills, three digs and two assists; Nancy Levinson had three kills, two points, two blocks and an assist. Lake-Lehman 2, Hanover 1 The guest Black Knights rebounded from losing the opening game to take the final two and win the match against the Hawkeyes last Wednesday. Hanover earned a 15-6 win in the first game, but Lake-Lehman swept the final two by scores of 15-9, 15-4 to earn the victory for the school. Kari Maskalis had fourteen digs, three blocks, four kills, and a pair of service points in leading the way. Sarah Davis earned the most points on serve, eleven, eight of which were aces, in addi- tion to one kill and 22 digs. Nichole Seiwell also had three aces (seven points overall) and finished with three kills and 36 digs. Wyoming Valley West 2, Dallas 0 An inspired Dallas effort fell short as the Spartans knocked off the host Moun- taineers on Thursday. Game scores were as close as possible, with Valley West sweeping by scores of 17-15, 15-13. Jen- nifer Toth and Nancy Levinson each had seven service points to keep Dallas in it. - See ROUNDUP, pg 10 Dallas harriers continue to win The Mountaineers Cross Coun- try team continued to dominate Division II of the Wyoming Valley X-C League with a 19-41 win over Nanticoke Sept. 27 on their 3.2 mile course. The win was a heal- ing victory since it was Nanticoke that ended Dallas’ title hopes and undefeated season last year. It was known that this year’s Nanticoke team would be a chal- lenge, but the boys of Dallas put together an outstanding effort to dominate by taking positions 1, 3, 4,5, 6, and 7. Pete Miller contin- ued his undefeated season in Di- vision II by beating Steve Baran, who took the race to Pete until the mile mark. At that point, Pete moved away to a 42 second vic- tory.
