9 The Dallas Post Section 2 September 13, 2000 Dallas harriers fare well in Robbins race The team opened its season by partici- pating in the 26th Annual Cliff Robbins cross country races under hot and hu- mid conditions at Kirby Park on Sept. 2. While several team members were ab- sent, the teams produced several out- standing performances with Peter Miller (Junior) finishing 17th, Floyd Mattie (sr.) finishing 60th of 283 runners. On the girls team, Jamie Bozentka (soph.) finshed 27th, Jill Youngblood (Junior) 61st, and Maria Bednash (Jr.) 71st of 223 runners. On Wednesday, Sept. 6, the teams travelled to Athens to compete against the Athens and Waverly, NY teams in an exhibition run at Round Top Park over- looking Athens. The weather was perfect and the hilly 2.9 mile course of trails and macadem and dirt roads challenged all athletes. The Dallas boys were led toa 20- 41 victory over Athens by Pete Miller (1st), 17:21, Floyd Mattie (3rd), 17:53, Matt Mark (4th), 19:16, Mike Hiscox (6th), 19:16, and Jim Appel (7th), 19:29. These same boys defeated Waverly, NY 18-37 by finishing 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. In the girl's meet against Athens, Fresh- man Whitney Adams (20:44) led her team toa 21-34 victory with her debut win over course record holder Jodi White (21:10). Sports Knights win Josh Kuwaye, left photo, had a good all around day as Lake-Lehman held off West Scranton 14-8 Saturday. Kuwaye ran for 60 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for nearly 50 yards. Quarterback Zack Ragukas, below, was 10-of-18 for 98 yards and a touchdown and no interceptions. A teams and Lake-Lehman is on top in the B and C team standings after three weeks of junior football action. Both teams are undefeated. The Dallas Mini-Mounts A team beat Kingston 18-10 over the week- end, while the B team lost 40-0 and the C team lost 20-8. Lake-Lehman’s Jr. Knights B team shut out Larksville 38-0; the C squad won 30-0, but the A team lost 28-0. the Kingston Twp. Raiders C team beat Plymouth 26-8, but the C team lost a close game 24- 20. The A squad forfeited. In other standings, the Lake-Leh- man A squad is tied for fourth with a 1-2 record; while Kingston Twp. is last at 0-3. Lake-Lehman is 3-0 among B teams, Dallas and Kingston Twp. are both 1-2. Lake-Lehman is tied for first with a 3-0 record among C teams, Kingston Twp. is 1-2 and Dallas is O- 3. Mounts romp Dallas cruised to a 48-14 win over Tunkhannock at home Saturday. POST PHOTOS/JIM PHILLIPS Mini-camp Sept. 23 at Dallas for youth basketball players A Dallas Basketball Mini Camp will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Dallas Senior High School for kids in 3rd though 6th grade. The camp will be run by the Dallas varsity coach Pat McCue and the J.V. coach Mike Fulten, with help from their players. The camp will cover, proper shooting technique, ball handling, passing, posi- tions, and defense. Each participant will be taught skills which they can take home and practice to help them become better players. The camp will also prepare them for the up- coming DYB season. The cost of the camp is $10, and will go to the boys Basketball Booster Club to help support our team. Vonderheid holds on for Huntsville championship A Sis Ertly claims third Ladies title, Rado top senior Todd Vonderheid prevailed in an excit- ing finish to capture his first club cham- pionship at Huntsville Golf Club with rounds of 70, 73 and 83. Finishing one stroke behind was Brian Llewellyn with rounds of 78, 76 and 73. Other top finishers were Brian Corbett, Chad Rado and Dom Castrignano, Jr. These top 5 finalists will represent Huntsville in the annual AGA Coal Scuttle tournament later this month. In the Ladies Club Championship, Sis Ertley captured her third championship with fine scores of 82 and 84. She also won this annual event in 1995 and 1996. Angela Kim finished a very respectable second place with scores of 91 and 83. In the Senior Club Championship Chad Rado beat all contestants with a two round total of 156. Bob Jones finished second with a 164 over two days. Round- ing out the top five was Dr. Tom Bednarek followed by Bruce Gover and Honorable A. Richard Caputo. In the Super Senior category, Dr. Earl Detrick had to go sud- den death to defeat Dick Maslow for the coveted crown and retain his title as champion. Among the juniors, Greg Mascioli con- tinued his excellent play by shooting a 78 to win his first Junior Club Champion- ship. Greg is a sophomore at Wyoming Seminary and along with Chris Boyle, also a member at Huntsville, is a key member of their undefeated high school team. In the 5-Hole division young Joe Bevevino won just squeaking by Alex Olsen and Tim Lambert. And in the 9- Hole flight David Janerich and Ethan Beswick tied for top honors. Signups Saturday for Dallas Youth Basketball Dallas Youth Basketball will hold signups for its boys and girls winter leagues on Sat., Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Tues., Sept. 19, from 7-9 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria.
