Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Petronella (Lukasavage) Kapuscinski. She was a member of the Gate of Heaven Church, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A.; and broth- ers, Benjamin, Alexander, Joseph and Anthony. Surviving are her daughter, Diane Wojciechowski, Dallas; sis- ter, Ceclia Piotrowski, Lake ~ Silkworth; and two grandchildren. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Lake Silkworth. JEAN MELOVITZ Jean Melovitz, 88, formerly of Harveys Lake and Wyoming, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Mead- ows Nursing Home, Dallas. She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Port Griffith, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Kozloski Lulewicz, and owned and operated Mel's Cafe, Harveys Lake. Mrs. Melovitz was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Wyoming. Her husband Frank, died in 1968; sisters, Helen and Mary, also preceded her in death. Surviving are brothers, Adam, John, Joseph and Leo, all of Wyo- ming; sisters, Rose Gutkowski, Wilkes-Barre; Eleanor Golebiewski, Connecticut; nieces and nephews. Interment is in St. John's Cem- etery, Dallas. MERLYN THACHER Merlyn J. Thacher, 82, of Har- veys Lake, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at the Veterans Adminis- trative Center, Washington, D.C. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William P. and Minnie Thacher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Wenner) Thacher. Surviving are his son, Leonard J., Woodbridge, Va.; one grand- daughter and one great-grand- daughter. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, St. Johns. Memorial donations may be made to Shavertown United Meth- odist Church. ’ CARSON D. GRAMLEY, JR. Carson D. Gramley, Jr. of Har- veys Lake died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Mehoopany, son of the late Carson and Maude Heintzelman Gramley Sr. He and his wife, the former Judy Shannon, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary July 22. His son, Carson P., died in 1962. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son, Carson, Seven Springs, N.C.; daughters, Susan Harris, Kunkle; Sandy White, Harveys Lake; Caryn Gramley, Fernbrook; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson; sisters, Doris Lane and Gloria Edwards, both of Tunkhannock; Peggy MacCreary, Florida; Janet Stine, York; Betty Weidner and Beatrice Clemow, both of Centermoreland; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Harveys Lake. ALFRED SZATKOWSKI Alfred S. "Butch" Szatkowski, Jr., 52, of Nanticoke, died Wednes- day, June 21, 2000, at his home. Born Feb. 15, 1948, in Nanti- coke, he was a son of Alfred and Edna (Gritsavage) Szatkowski, with whom he resided. McDermott, Sr. Mr. McDermott was an Air Force veteran. Before retiring six years ago, he was employed by the Federal Avia- tion Administration, Red Rock, for 36 years. His brother, Joseph, preceded him in death.
