Each of the ensembles will appear as featured artists at the American Choral Directors’ state conference in State Col- lege on August 8., and will share selections from the programs planned for those ap- pearances. Formed in 1993 to explore the riches of the a cappella tradition, The Lyric Consort's perfor- mances and wide-rang- ing repertoire hae gar- nered consistent criti- cal acclaim. The ensemble's acknowledged mastery of Medieval and Renaissance rep- ertories is being increasingly bal- anced by similar success with con- temporary vocal works and the ensemble now regularly premiers new works from the region's fin- est composers and arrangers. An auditioned ensemble of 16 high school treble voices under the direction of Ms. Susan Kelly, Cantare represents the most ad- vanced singers from The Choral Society's five-tiered children's/ yough program. Formed in 1998, the ensemble offers eight perfor- mances annually as part of the Society's subscription series, and also appeared with the Society's symphonic chorus during last May's performances of Handel's Judas Maccabaeus.
