The event will be held in the Hughes Memorial Gar- den at the Bishop Memorial Li- brary, 49 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Maintained by the Back Moun- tain Bloomers, the Hughes Me- morial Garden is part of the Na- - tional Register of Historic Places of the Downtown Wilkes-Barre - Historic District. A Victorian Fashion Show is the highlight of this year's Garden Party. Apparel from the mid 1800's to 1902 will be presented. Origi- nal Victorian fashions donated by members of the community along with handmade skirts and dresses from Costumes by Barbara will be modeled. Fashion show modera- tor will be local TV personality Jane Adonizio. The garden reception will fea- ture a complimentary glass of champagne, cold crudites, cana- pes and tea sandwiches. Back by popular demand is the "Hat Contest". All guests are wel- come to wear their favorite garden party bonnets, which will be judged by Mrs. Helen McDonald of Mountaintop. Gift certificates from Penn State Seed Company will be awarded to the persons wearing the two prettiest hats. Following the Garden Party, guests may dine at the Westmoreland Club located adja- centtothe garden at 7 p.m. Guests may choose from a selected menu of grilled delmonico, steamed red snapper or grilled chicken breast. East Dallas UMC strawberry social July 12 East Dallas United Methodist Church will hold a Strawberry Social at the Church on July 12, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Church is located on Lower DeMunds Road. The menu will include hotdogs, whimpies, potato salad, macaroni salad, beans, cake and ice cream, and a beverage. American Legion will meet July 14 Daddow-Isaac Post 67 2, The American Legion will hold their regular meeting, Friday, July 14, at 8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to - certify the June election of officers and directors to the Home Associa- tion. The Post will not meet in the month of August. Standing pools still unlawful in Kingston twp. The Kingston Township Zoning Officer reminds the residents of the Township that it is unlawful to have any collection of standing water, except for agricultural purposes, in which mosquitos are likely to breed, unless such collection of water is treated or maintained to prevent such breeding. The Pennsylvania Departments of Environmental Protection and Health warn that there is a chance the West-Nile Virus which was found in New York City last summer could be spread into Pennsylvania this summer by the common mosquito. Township residents are requested to eliminate pools and any accumulations of stagnant water to help prevent the spread of mosquitoes. Lake Township taxes mailed July 10 Ruth Orloski, Lake Township Tax Collector, notes that the 2000 School Property and Per Capita taxes were mailed on Monday, July 10. Anyone not receiving their tax bills should notify her immediately. The Tax Collector also requests that persons who have moved and are no longer residents of the Township should contact her. All tax bills are mailed directly to the homeowner. It is their responsibility to forward Property Taxes (not Per Capita) immedi- ately to the mortgage company or bank for prompt payment.
