2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, June 28, 2000 OBITUARIES RODGER BEARDE Rodger L. Bearde, Sr., 60, of Kingston, died Friday, June 23, 2000 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1940, in Spring City, he was a son of the late George and Dorothy Bearde. He was a resident of Kingston for the past 29 years and previously re- sided in Lititz and Spring City. He was a graduate of Springford High School, where he was an All- Scholastic in baseball, football and basketball. In his senior year, he was named the Outstanding ‘'Three-Sport Star Athlete for Berks, Chester and Montgomery coun- ties. An All-State American Le- gion baseball player, he signed a bonus contract with the Pitts- burgh Pirates. He was also a graduate of West Chester University, where he later received his master's degree. Af- ter college graduation, he began his career in teaching and coach- ing, with two years at Perkomen Valley High School; six years at Warwick High School, where he won three championship and was selected Coach of the Year twice; eight years at Wilkes University; and the past 24 years at Lake- Lehman High School, where his teams won two Wyoming Valley Conference Championships and ~ made nine district playoff appear- ances. He also served as the athletic director at Lake-Lehman. In February he was enshrined as one of the first three members of the Lake-Lehman Basketball Hall of Fame. He attended the Dorranceton United Methodist Church, King- ston, and was a member of P.S.E.A.-N.E.A. and the Pennsyl- vania State Athletic Director's Association. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodger L., Jr., in 1981. Born Nov. 11, 1969, in King- ston, he was a son of James and Rita (Holleran) Grady, Wilkes- Barre. He was preceded in death by his brother, James; and sister, Bernice. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his brothers, Tho- mas, Wilkes-Barre; and Michael, Dallas; sisters, Peggy, Pittston; and Marilyn O'Boyle, Avoca; and several nieces and nephews. HARRY F. GOERINGER Harry F. Goeringer, 77, of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Newberry Es- tates, Dallas, died Thursday, June 22,2000 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born in Wilkes-Barer, son of the late Harry F. and Mary Malkemes Goeringer. Mr. Goeringer attended Dallas United Methodist Church. He was an Army Air Corps vet- eran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, the former Mary Jane Hislop; sons. Harry- F.. HI, Hutchinson Island, Fla.; step- daughters, Susan Gauntlett and Megan Moore, both of Dallas; eight grandchildren; sisters, Christine Binford, Hagerstown, Md.; Eleanor Taylor, Monterey, Calif.; Lois Sweinberg, Wyoming; Caroline Basler, Boca Raton, Fla. Rish, 78, of Leh- man, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at home. He was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Larksville, son of the late Stephen and Mary Metsko Rish. Mr. Rish was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Mr. Rish was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with company F, 302nd Infantry Regiment. He received the Purple Heart; Victory Medal and Euro- pean African Middle Eastern Ser- vice Medal with four bronze stars. He and his wife, the former Helen Pasola, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary May 8. Brothers, Stephen, John, Albert, Joseph, and Elmer; sis- ters, Mary Regelski and Catherine Kertulis, preceded him in death. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son, Edward M., Leh- man; daughters, Rosemary Howard, Lehman; Mary Sue Rish, Trucksville; sisters, Helen France, Ruth Korda and Rita Kaschak, all of Larksville; nieces and neph- ews. Bird, Dallas, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. She was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Kingston, daughter of the late David and Mildred Dennis Tho- mas. Mrs. Bird and her husband Arthur H., were married for 48 years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters, Charlene Carey, Trucksville; Phyllis Zapoticky, Dallas; son, Arthur H. Jr., Lehman; seven grandchildren; sister, Grace Ide, Lehman. HELEN PIECZYNSKI Helen (Klocko) Pieczynski, 79. of Wyoming, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. Born Nov. 15, 1920 in West Wyoming, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Joanna (Juskiewicz) Klocko. She was a member of St. Mary's Annuncia- tion Church, Kingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund J.; broth- ers, Stanley and Andrew Klocko; and sister, Ann Greskiewicz. Surviving are her sons, Edmund, Swoyersville; John, Dallas; James, Wallingford, Conn.; Paul, Kingston Township; and Thomas, Kingston; daugh- ters, Rose Mary Gorey, Kingston Township; and Anne Skovira, Larksville; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sisters, Stella Zech, Irvine, Calif; and Loretta Klocko, Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews. CATHERINE WIORKOWSKI Catherine Wiorkowski, former West Side resident, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. Born June 19, 1915, in Scran- ton, she was a daughter of the late Ellsworth and’ Anastasia (Laskowski) Michalek. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Janczyk and Wanda Zupon; and brother, Tony. Surviving are her son, Robert, Taylor; daughter, Kathie Trescavage, Shavertown; four grandchildren; sisters, Helen Snopkowski, Scranton; Jeanne Telesz, Old Forge; and Mary Labishak, Baltimore; brothers, Joseph Michalek, Bloomfield, NJ; and Hank Michalek, Linden, NJ; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul's Church Cemetery. BERNARD HALL Bernard (Ben) Hall, 58. of Ashley, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Wilkes- Barre. He was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Charlottesville, Va., son of Caleb Hall of Kingston and the late Alice Smith Hall. Mr. Hall was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was em- ployed as a bus driver by Luzerne County Transportation Authority. L-L indoor percussion wins competition The Lake-Lehman Indoor Concert Percussion has just completed indoor competition for the winter and spring session. This is their second year in indoor competition. The group is under the instruction of Mr. David Gambal and Mrs. Mandy Gambal. There was a first place medal for each performer at the Chapter 7 Championships in Parkland, PA on April 29. The unit won individual medals and a banner at the Indoor All Chapter Championships in Wildwood, NJ, May 6 with a score of 93.2.
