He said during this year’s donkey basketball game, in which faculty plays against students, a Lake-Lehman graduate who is now a teacher kept missing shots. "I: need Bearde to yell at me,” Gorgone heard him shout. “His personality and work ethic showed in the athletic program,” Gorgone said, although it was al- ways kept in proper perspective. He said Bearde helped establish a “gentlemen's agreement” that coaches would not meddle if stu- dents were playing another sport. Oliver said Bearde was first hired to teach reading at the el- ementary level and assist with athletic programs. He also man- aged the school's audio/visual equipment. Bearde had been working to develop middle school students’ basic skills during the last school term. Bearde had a distinguished playing and coaching career. Af- ter an all-star high school career Dallas Youth Basketball 8th grade girls won the North Ameri- can Youth Regional Tournament held at the University of Scranton. DYB defeated St. Joseph A's from Scranton in the finals 41-36. DYB was led by Shannon Thomas with a game high 16 points, fol- lowed by Jackie Hardwick 8 points, Rosalyn Wentko 6 points, Meredith Lacey 5 points, Halli Williams 4 points, and Ashleigh King 2 points. In semi-final action DYB de- feated Golden Cup Sporting Goods of Easton 29 to 18. DYB was led by Thomas 14 points, Wentko, “We lost a very good and decent man. He in baseball, football and basket- ball, he was signed to a bonus contract by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He graduated from West Chester University, then coached at two high schools and Wilkes College before coming to Lake-Lehman, where his teams made nine play- off appearances and won two con- ference championships. He was active in high school athletic or- ganizations and served as secre- tary/treasurer of the Wyoming Valley Conference. His obituary appears on page 2. DYB girls win tournament Lacey, Hardwick and Caitlin Dukas all with 3 points and Halli Williams 2 points. Earlier in pool play DYB de- feated Chambersburg 45-38. DYB was led by Thomas 18 points, Williams 9 points, Lacey 6 points, King, Hardwick, 4 points, Wentko, Dukas 2 points apiece and Brooke Blase played a good defensive game. Also in pool play DYB defeated St. Joseph 47-36.
