GILLIGAN Post Correspondent TRUCKSVILLE - Trucksville United Methodist Church was the setting on Sunday, May 21, for the 50th Anniversary celebration of Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 155. Eagle Scout Brian Miller sang a solo, a cappella, version of the song “On My Honor” at the 11:00 AM Church Service and at the afternoon ceremonies. Master of Ceremonies William Bachman introduced honored guests, former and current scouting officials, cubmasters, scoutmasters, and Eagle Scouts. Assistant Scoutmaster Ed Transue quoted publisher William Boyce in his speech about the history of scouting. Boyce introduced scouting to America after a 1910 trip to London where he found himself lost in a fog. A young man, who led him to where he needed to go, refused a tip, saying, “No, thank you sir. I'm a scout and I'm supposed to help those who can't help themselves.” State Representative Phyllis Mundy presented a resolution to ‘the Pack and Troop on behalf of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Betty June Mathers, Scouting Coordinator for Trucksville United Methodist ‘Church, was also presented with a resolution in recognition of her 26 years of service. ~ “Whoever would have thought when I agreed to be a den mother, that I'd still be involved 26 years later?” asked Mrs. Mathers in her remarks to the POST PHOTOS/M.B. Scoutmaster Charles Stajewski announced that a “Campership Fund” for needy scouts was set up to honor Mrs. Mathers. A plague that will hang in Fellowship Hall was presented to Betty June during the ceremonies. Mountain Trailblazer District Executive Eric Chase discussed the Scout pledge to “do my best.” He quoted General Colin Powell's book when the general said, “If you lose your wallet on the street, you better hope it is picked up by a Boy Scout.” Mr. Chase also related a recent incident he witnessed where a young man came out of the Cinemark theater and got Betty June Mathers, left, was honored during the ceremonies. When he reached the ticket booth he returned the extra money he had mistakenly received in change. A couple of boys standing nearby snickered and asked him if he was a Boy Scout. He proudly replied, “Yes, in fact, I am.” Atty. Eric Dingle, Trucksville, who earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1967 was joined on stage by over 20 other Eagle Scouts from Troop 155. To- gether they recited the Eagle Scout oath. This was the first time that Troop 155’s newest Eagles participated in this type of public honor. The ceremony concluded with those in attendance singing the “Scout Vespers” which ends with the question, “Have I done and have I dared everything to be prepared?” Lake-Lehman Taxpayers to meet June 1 The Lake-Lehman School District Taxpayers Association will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, June 1, at 7 p.m. in the Lehman Township Municipal Building located on old route 115.
