The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, April 5, 2000 3 Ashleigh Ide, playing Agnes Gooch, sang during a rehearsal of "Mame" last weekend. The musical comedy will be presented For the first time in 12 years, Dallas High School will present a musical comedy this weekend in what is hoped will mark the re- surgence of the tradition of musi- cal productions at Dallas. The musical comedy Mame will be presented the Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. in the High School auditorium. The pro- duction is once again under the direction of Donald Hopkins, as- sisted by Audrey Ide, with choral direction by Cassie Palfey and instrumental direction by Todd Hunter. This play will be the final production by Mr. Hopkins, who has been directing theater at Dal- las for 35 years. The show evokes memories in the adult population of Angela Lansbury’s memorable creation of Mame Dennis, an outspoken sophisticate who suddenly be- comes the guardian to her young nephew Patrick. The funny and heartwarming episodes are filled with memorable songs including “It's Today,” “Mame,” “Bosom Bud- dies” and “My Best Girl.” The cast and crews are working to create this glitzy Manhattan fable with colorful sets and costumes cre- ated by the students and theatre staff. Essentially we would be drawing water from the high school to irrigate the field.” Foreman-Burkavage architects are investigating several alterna- tives which are expected to add to the cost of the irrigation system. “We can look at tying the high school into the municipal water system which would allow us to use the existing 10,000 gallon tank for irrigation,” said Flynn. “Regardless of what we decide to do the cost is certainly going to increase from the $15,000 or $16,000 we initially estimated.” The school board approved a suggestion to use red brick for the exterior of the fieldhouse. The blocks will be slightly larger than standard bricks and the size will | reduce cost slightly. “This is a more economical design and an added bonusis this designis avail- able immediately from Wilkes- Barre Clay, sowe will not run into a problem ordering materials when the time comes,” said Flynn. Bids for bleacher construction are due Wednesday and removal of the old stands is expected to begin within several weeks. “Ev- erything is moving very fast and it has to for us to keep our time- table,” said Gerald Phillips, archi- tect. “We will be giving you fre- quent updates over the next sev- eral weeks so that you're kept informed. We don’t want you to say, ‘Here's everything, we hope you like it." We would rather keep coming to you to make these deci- sions.” OBITUARIES The following property transfers were recorded at the Luzerne County Courthouse for the week of March 24-30 Pauline M.
