The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 15,2000 7 American Legion Post 672 to honor Korean War Vets Donations sought for ' ¢ Our Lady of Fatima Rehab When Sr. Sponsa Beltran, OSF, a Bernardine missionary returned to Africa following a visit to the Back Mountain this summer, she was out of debt and the first build- ing at Our Lady of Fatima Rehab was almost completed. Must to Sister's dismay, the contractor had walked off the job and many new children had been admitted to the rehab. Amputees and victims of the war have increased to nearly 600; foster homes have been found in Cape Palmas for almost one hun- dred handicapped children. On Dec. 23, 75 children moved into their first home. There is still no indoor plumbing or source of wa- ter as the well ran dry. Two generators are still needed. A water tower and water purifica- tion center must be erected. An- other dormitory could be used right now but the funds are not available. A 500 recipe cookbook, and a CD or cassette of two of the Rehab singers are available for a dona- tion of $10 each. All money col- lected is used for the children’s care, education and rehabilita- tion. Geisinger's art auction benefits Children's Miracle Network The Children's Miracle Network of Geisinger Health System in partnership with the Heisman Fine Arts Gallery of Philadelphia, ' @ will host an art gala and auction on Saturday, April 1 at the Genetti's Best Western in Wilkes- Barre. The doors open at 6 p.m. for an opportunity to preview the art and enjoy hors'douvres. A variety of dinner stations located through- out the room will begin serving at 7 p.m. The art auction begins promptly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 a person and will include hors'douvres, dinner and dessert. This year marks the 50th anni- versary of the start of the Korean War. Guest speaker will be Joseph W. Sincavage, Commander of the Korean War vets of Wyoming Val- ley. Chairman of the event is Walter I. Galka, Chaplain of the Legion, Co-chairmen are Rev. William Lewis, Dallas United Methodist Church and Rev. Fa- ther John C. Lambert of the Gate of Heaven Church. Meadows Nursing Center, AARP offering senior driving course The Meadows Nursing Center, has joined with the American As- sociation of Retired Persons (AARP) to offer a "55 Alive /Mature Driving" Course. AARP developed the program to help drivers "fifty" years of age or older to improve their driving skills, and partici- pants receive a state mandated 5% discount on their auto insur- ance for three years.
