~The Dallas Post Sports | Section 2 | Wednesday , November 3, 1999 McCabe wins national title Jim McCabe has won the World Karting Association National Enduro Series. The Association held its final event Oct. 29-31 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. McCabe, a 19-year-old Wilkes University student, has been the points leader since his win in the first race of the season, held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in March. McCabe backed that win up with another at Summit Point, WV and two wins in WEKA Divisional Races held at New Hamp- shire International Speedway. McCabe had enough of a lead over the second place rg TT driver that he only needed to finish 19th or better to clinch the cham- pionship. The weekend started off nearly disas- trous with un- common tire fail- ure and then los- ing an engine 3 i during the first JIM McCABE round of practice causing McCabe to miss most of Friday's test sessions. Although disappointed by - the way Friday went, McCabe was able to get in two good rounds of practice Satur- day and be ready for his second place starting position on the grid. McCabe was able to hold on to his second place position until a red flag stopped the race and a full restart was ordered. This time when the green flag waved McCabe was able to take the lead, but because of the long straightaways on the 2.25 mile road course, drafting is very important, and the drivers were able to pass him in the front straight. Preferring to be in the lead, McCabe used his road course skills and retook the lead on the fast and challenging infield. However, in the end two drivers drafted by him again and with no time left McCabe finished third, a mere 0.257 seconds behind the leader. McCabe would like to thank his friends and marketing partners at Advanced Employee Services, Luzerne; BOC Gases in Kingston; Castle Chemicals, Gouldsboro; Competition Plus Motorsports, Dallas; Dallas Parcel Ser- vice, Dallas; Fleet Decal and Graphics, Plymouth; Mike Goldsmith, Dallas; Hanover Ornamental Iron Works, Dallas; Hope Telecom.
