The Dallas Post 12 Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 3, 1999 SPORTS ROUNDUP FIELD HOCKEY Lehman 2, Seminary 0 Lehman got one goal in each half as it eliminated Wyoming Seminary from the District 2 Class AA playoffs in a semifinal game played Friday afternoon. Alyson Bevan started the scoring just under six minutes into the game when she scored off a pass from Janelle Perlis. Terri Peiffer scored her twelfth goal of the season with 5 minutes left to give the Knights some more breathing room. Janel Janiczek made a pair of saves as she earned the shutout win in net. Lehman now plays Crestwood this evening at 7 at Lackawanna County Stadium for the district championship. Crestwood 2, Dallas 0 Crestwood’s young team was able to shut out Dallas in a Dis- trict 2 Class AA semifinal game played on Friday afternoon. The Comets scored in each half and outshot the Mountaineers by a 16-8 margin. Keeper Melonie Sappe made eight saves in goal for Dallas, who ended the season with a 15-5-1 record. SOCCER Lehman 4, Mountain View 0 Tony Van Scoy scored twice as top seed Lehman opened defense of its District 2 Class AA title with a win over eighth-seeded Moun- tain View. Steve Moyer got the scoring going in the thirteenth minute. Van Scoy scored fifteen minutes later on the first of Brian Noler’s two assists. Noler then assisted Matt McMahon's second half goal. Van Scoy added a goal one minute after McMahon's to close out the scoring. Russ Mosier stopped Mountain View's only shot of the game to earn a shutout win in goal. Dallas 7, Dunmore 1 Ryan Love scored three of the Mountaineers’ first four goals as the second-seeded Dallas squad knocked off seventh-seeded Dunmore in the first round of the District 2 Class AA playoffs. Ricky Branco added a penalty kick goal in addition to two assists. Josh Katyl added a goal and an assist. Vito Recchia and Paul Shiber also scored. Dallas outshot Dunmore 41-7. FOOTBALL Dallas 48, Meyers 0 Dallas scored nine touchdowns in a rout of Meyers in the final regular season home game for the Mountaineers this season. Matt Acri scored a pair of touchdowns while amassing 102 yards on the ground. Backfield mate Matt Jackson surpassed the 4,000 ca- reer mark in rushing yards by gaining 116 more on the ground including a 35-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Senior receiver Randy Knappman caught two passes, including a 31-yard touchdown from quarterback Chuck Suppon. The Mountain- eers finished with more than 470 yards of total offense. Lehman 21, Crestwood 19 The Black Knights controlled the clock in the second half as it kept the high-powered Crestwood passing attack off the field in earn- ing a tough two-point victory on Saturday in Mountaintop. After coming to halftime with an eight- point lead, the Lehman coaches wanted to chew up as much time in the second half as possible. The Knights finished with two one hundred- yard rushers in the game. Travis McRoy led the team with 155 yards and 33 carries. He scored the game's first touchdown. Josh Kuwaye gained 132 yards and scored the final two touch- downs for the Knights. This sets up Saturday's Old Shoe game at Lehman which finds both teams with just one conference loss, with the winner winning the confer- ence title. L-L Football Club meets Nov. 4 The Lake-Lehman Football Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 4 at Grotto Pizza, Harveys Lake at 7:30 p.m. All parents of football players and cheerleaders are asked to attend. The Dallas High School boys soccer club honored the 1999 team’s three seniors Oct. 20. Jesse Williams is this year’s captain. He began playing intramural soccer at age 9, and has played on a Dallas team for five years. He is a member of the Student Council, the Steering Com- mittee, is a Peer Mediator, a Peer Tutor and member of the Knowledge Bowl. He is an honor student, and hopes to attend Villanova Univer- sity, study business and play soccer. His parents are Walter and Judy Williams. Jamie Raub began playing soccer at age 8. He played Matt Rice with his parents, William and Sharon Rice. Dallas Soccer Club honors this season's seniors for a year on the Dallas Middle School team and four years in high school. He has also participated in cross country, wrestling, track and the school newspaper. He . referees for Back Mountain Youth Soccer. His parents are Thomas and Kathy Raub. Matthew Rice began playing soccer at age 6, and has played for Dallas three years. He is involved with the Student Council and Steer- ing Committee, and has been an honor roll student all four years.
