Swepston Jr., 69, of Upper Demunds Road in Dallas, died Oct. 11, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingston. Born in Marion, OH, he was the son of thelate Harry D. and Madge E. (Barton) Swepston. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and he attended Bucknell Junior College and Penn State University. Before retiring, he was owner and operator of Tech Weld, Inc., Welding Supplies and Medical Gases of Kingston. He was a staff sergeant with the 109th Field Artillery from 1950 to 1952, serving with the occupa- tion forces in Germany. He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Dallas, where he was an elder and a member of the choir. He was a member and past master of George M. Dallas Lodge 531 F&AM, Caldwell Consistory in Bloomsburg, Irem Temple in Wilkes-Barre, and the Irem Temple Antique and Classic Car Unit. He was a past member of the Dallas School Board, where he served as president for several years. He was also a member of the Dallas School Authority. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Joycelyn I. Colson; sons, Harry D. III, St. Paul, MN; James C., Dallas; Charles E., Apex, NC; daughters, Julie Hains, Dallas; Polly Anne Butler, Shickshinny Lake and Cynthia Swepston, Dallas and six granddaughters. Yachim Sr., 84, of Hildebrandt Road, Dallas, and a former resident of Forty Fort, died Oct. 17, 1999, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a brief illness. Born Oct. 22, 1914, in Wilkes- Barre, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Serbin) Yachim. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Mary of the Dormition Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, and a former member of its choir. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Army drill ‘sergeant. Beforeretiring he was employed as a pattern maker by Leslie Fay Inc., Plains Township for more than 25 years. He was also self- employed as a sign painter for several years. A guitarist, he played with the Andy Grubb Band for several years. He was a member of the Bass Masters Association and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Katherine Kutzer Yachim; brothers, John and Peter and sister, Veronica Yachim. Surviving are his sons, Carl, with whom he resided in Dallas; Michael, Edwardsville; daughter, Charlotte Yachim, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Joseph, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Mary Petyak, Wilkes-Barre; and two granddaughters. He graduated from Wilkes- Barre High School and received his bachelor's degree in educa- tion from Pennsylvania State Uni- versity. Before his retirement in 1975, he had been employed by the Wilkes-Barre School District as math teacher for 34 years at Meyers High School. He had pre- viously been employed by the Pennsylvania Power & Light Corp. in Allentown. He was a member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre and the Pennsylva- nia State Retired Teachers Asso- ciation. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert; and sisters., Jane Challis and Mary C. Reese. She had previ- ously resided in Luzerne and Kingston. She was formerly employed as a school teacher at the former Luzerne Elementary School and Linwood Elementary School in Chichester. She was a member of the Idetown United Methodist Church, a life member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Kingston Chap- ter, Irem Temple Ladies Auxiliary, Young at Heart Club, Senior Citi- zens and the Cedars of Lebanon in Chester. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Judith Ann Thomas, sister, Jane Simon and brothers, Robert and David.
