An overflow crowd turned out for last week's spaghetti supper at St. Therese's Church, Shavertown, for the benefit of - the Our Lady of Fatima Rehab of Liberia. Sr. Mary Sponsa Beltran, who founded the mission, attended along with two of the handicapped Liberian children from the rehab center. Born in 1965 with Down syn- drome, Burke has faith in him- self and the courage to face prejudices as he pursues his life- long dream to work as an ac- tor. Following his 1987 debut in the television movie Desperate, CHRIS BURKE Burke was featured in Life Goes on. He has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a Golden Apple Award, and has been named to Ten Outstanding New Faces and Ten Outstanding Young Americans; he also is a National Rehabilitation Hospital Honoree and has received the Just One Break Ability First Award. Currently Burke serves as the national goodwill ambassador for the National Down Syndrome So- ciety and as editor-in-chief of News & Views, amagazine for and about people with Down syndrome.
