2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, September 8, 1999 Pokemon craze draws a crowd Word that a Pokemon Trading Night was to be held at Sports Plus in the Dallas Shopping Center spread like an out-of-control wildfire, only with harmless consequences. The event, held Sept. 1, attracted dozens of eager youngsters and bewildered parents. Trading went on anywhere two or more kids could gather, which was sometimes outside on the sidewalk, since bodies crammed the aisles of the store. PSU offering computer workshops The fall series of computer workshops at Penn State Wilkes- Barre will begin Sept. 17. The series is designed for various lev- els of computer literacy, and of- fers training workshops for every- one interested in improving their computer skills for more effective and efficient use of their comput- ers. For novice computer users, the Introduction to PC Computing gives a conceptual understand- ing of the various computer com- ponents and a working knowl- edge of computer terminology. The use of computers as tools to man- age information and data are ex- plored. - Workshops are scheduled to provide introductory to advanced skill training in various software applications such as Word for word processing, Excel for spread- sheets, Access for database man- agement, and Powerpoint for pre- sentations. New this fall are courses on the ‘Windows ‘98 operating system, Microsoft Outlook for e-mail and schedule management, and two levels of skill training in the Microsoft Project. Level four Excel and Access classes focus on the use of Visual Basic Applications. A full course on all Microsoft software applications is offered at Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s off-cam- pus location on Rt. 315 in Wilkes- Barre on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. throughout the fall. All other workshops are offered at the campus in Lehman in a new, state- of-the-art computer lab. The sched- ule includes both day and week- end workshops.
