Born in the Buttonwood sec- tion of Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Florence (Lane) Lewis. She had resided in Sweet Valley for the last 53 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Hanover Township High School. She was employed as a candy dipper for the former Helen K. Salsburg Candy Manufacturing in Wilkes-Barre and was a-book- keeper for the Pennsylvania Bank- ing Co. in Philadelphia, the Nanticoke Hospital and the Shav- ertown Lumber Co. until retiring 20 years ago. She was a charter member of the Hanover Green Chapel in Hanover Township. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Risko and Ruth Syryca. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Robert E. Gray Sr.; son, Robert E. Jr., Sweet Valley; three grandchildren and nieces. Interment, Maple Grove Cem- etery, Pikes Creek. Martin J. Byrne, 94, of Main Road in Sweet Valley, Ross Town- ship, died Sept. 1, 1999, in the Hospice Community Care Unit of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. ‘Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was the son of the late Martin and Agnes Byrne. He came to the United States in 1918. He resided in Long Island, NY, until retiring from the Branch Motor Co. in 1972. He was em- ployed by Hillside Farms Nursery in Kingston Township for 15 years until retiring three years ago. He was also a shop steward for Team- sters Union Locai 240. She was employed as a nurse in Mount Holly, NJ and in the office of the late Dr. Crompton. She was a member of the Hunts- ville Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Jr. and Ken- neth Owen; and sisters, Marian Murray and Lois Hollenback. Surviving are her husband, Vito R. “Bucky”; son, Richard, Dallas; sisters, Elsa Orchard, Trucksville; Louise Haas, Olyphant; and Lorraine White, St. Louis; brother, Burton Owen, Dallas; two grand- daughters, and several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pringle. MARTIN BYRNE He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at Lake Silkworth and the Sweet Valley Volunter Fire co. He raised and lowered the flag at the fire hall until his health failed. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Ruth Mullin and two nieces. Interment, Our Lady of Mount + Carmel Cemetery, Lehman Town- ship.
