The event began with a family picnic Sunday, and was followed by classes Monday through Thursday. The children enjoyed singing, storytelling and crafts. Pugh will be hon- ored by the Eth- ics Institute of Northeast PA for his contributions to ‘the commu- nity and those with disabilities. Pugh has served as vice president of re- habilitation services at Allied Ser- vices in Scranton since 1987. He joined Allied Services as director of communications in 1981 and has served as Allied’s vice presi- dent/corporate services and vice president and CEO of the John - Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in Wilkes-Barre. He currently is a member of the Hos- pital Association of Pennsylvania and the American Hospital Asso- ciation. Since 1994 Pugh has served as a consultant on hospital privatization and foundation for- mation with the U.S Aid project in Warsaw, Poland, working with the Litewska Children’s Hospital. He also conducts a corporate pro- gram of providing equipment to the Association of Disabled People of Lithuania, and serves as a con- sultant to Trnava University Healthcare Management Educa- tion Project in the Slovakia Re- public. He is active in the Arthritis Foundation, the James S. Brady Center, the Northeast Region Board of Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center, the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, and the Muhlenburg United Methodist Church. He also serves as the executive vice president of the board of the Pennsylvania Asso- ciation of Rehabilitation Facili- ties. : [LX] Joseph J. Hayer, has been named a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.). + He successfully - completed a four-part exam, which includes Purchasing and Sourcing, Man- agement, Supply, and Critical Is- sues in Supply Chain Manage- ment. Hayer is one of only 31,000 others nationwide who have met the education, personal develop- ment, and professional responsi- bility experience requirements for certification. He holds a BS de- gree in accounting and econom- ics and an MBA degree in finance from Wilkes University. He is a resident of Shavertown and was employed at College Mise- ricordia for the past 16 years as business manager. [LX J Laura Reider Novakowski of Hunlock Creek has been named vice president of patient care ser- vices at Mercy Hospital. She will have administrative responsibility for patient care ar- eas including nursing, surgical services, labora- tory services,im- aging services and diagnostic ser- vices. Prior to assuming her new po- sition, Mrs. Novakowski had served as the administrator of Mercy Health Care Center, Nanticoke. A registered nurse, she earned a bachelor’s degree from College Misericordia, attended Wilkes University as a business major prior to earning an MBA in 1991. She is a board member and member of the executive board of the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania since 1997. She also serves as that organization's newsletter co-edi- tor.
