Faut received a Wilkes commemorative armchair at a luncheon held recently in his honor. Wilkes U. honors Owen Faut honored for years of service Wilkes University professor of Chemistry and Engineering Dr. Owen Faut, Dallas, was presented with a Wilkes commemorative armchair in recognition of his 10 years of service as Secretary to the Faculty. The award was given at a lun- cheon held recently in his honor. Faut will continue in his role as professor, but announced his re- tirement as Secretary to the Fac- ulty in May. Faut joined the Wilkes faculty in 1967 as an associate professor of Chemistry. He attained full professor status in 1977 and added the Engineering discipline in 1982. for a time, he also served as chairman of the Chemistry Department. An accomplished researcher, Faut received numerous fellow- ships for his area of expertise. He received four NASA/ASEE Sum- mer Faculty Fellowhips, working in the Goddard Space Flight Cen- ter, .Greenbelt, MD, during the summers of 1979 and 1980, and at the Lewis Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio, during 1983 and 1984. Faut also participated in two National Research Council (NRC) Senior Research Associateships at the Cleveland center. Faut received his undergradu- ate degree in Chemistry from Muhlenberg College and a Ph.D. with a major in Inorganic Chem- istry and a minor in Physical Chemistry from M.ILT. He is a member of The American Chemi- cal Society, The Society of Sigma Xi, The Pennsylvania German Society and Omiocron Delta Kappa, an honorary leadership and scholarship fraternity. LCCC schedules course registration Luzerne County Community College will hold rgistration for fall semester classes on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at building 5, at the College's campus in Nanticoke. Classes for the fall semester will begin on Monday, Aug. 30. Francis and Loefller named to dean's list Kimberly D. Francis of Shavertown and April M. Loeffler of Dallas were named to the dean's list at Mansfield University for the spring semester. Loeffler recently participated in commencement ceremonies. at the school and earned a BS in Elementary Education. Valerie Wolfe honored at Elizabethtown Valerie Wolfe has been inducted into the Elizabethtown College Chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Contestants will vie for ~~ | Queen title at County Fair The 37th annual Luzerne County Fair committee an- nounced applications are now available for the County Queen and County Princess contests. The County Queen event is for young ladies aged 16-20 years of age, and the county winner competes at the state level com- petition in Hershey this Janu- ary. Scoring involves public speaking, an interview with judges, writing an essay on the importance of the County Fair, along with poise and appear- ance. The Luzerne County fi- nals will be held Friday and Saturday, September 10-11. The Luzerne County Queen wins S500 compliments of. Pepsi-Cola Corproation. The first runner-up wins $100 and all entrants will receive prizes. The Luzerne County Princess contest will be held Saturday, Sept. 11. This is a contest for young girls aged 5 to 8. Shiskowski & Piatt receive awards Matthew Shiskowski and Caleb Piatt, 6th grade students at Lehman-Jackson Elementary School were recipients of awards at the Annual Awards Day Ceremony held recently at the school.
