The installation of new surveillance cameras was designed to reduce the need for manpower in the facilities eight towers but the reduction has been controversial. “I am definitely up- set about it,” said Frances Stash, whose property borders SCID. “I ean't understand how these two slipped out right from under their noses. [ think if they had those towers manned it wouldn't have happened.” Ir. Burnett said it’s important to take the necessary precautions until the situation has been re- salved but that itis notareason to panic. “People need to be vigilant but this incident should not inter- fere with their daily routines,” he bp Just Say, said. Most appear willing to heed that advice. “Well we're not going to worry about it,” said Stash. “The doors are locked and the gun is loaded but we're not living in fear because we think those two are long gone by now.” Common sense is the order of the day. “I took a look around the house when I got home just to make sure no one had been in- side,” said Lawrence Recek of Jackson Township. ~ Humor also has helped ease tensions of those living nearest the prison. “I always joke about it,” said Recek. “I tell people that the car keys are in the ignition, the tank is full of gas and there is money on the seat. The escapees don’t even have to come in the house.” "CHARGE IT" SES Eo SCP RL eS al a Le a a art The Post now accepts Visa & Mastercard for all of your sub- scriptions, classified ads, and display ads. Post PHOTOS/CHARLOTTE BARTIZEK Dallas alters bus routes By KASIA MCDONOUGH Post Staff District transportation system has been through a major overhaul this summer. Many of the changes were ne-- cessitated by the completion of Wycallis Elementary School, but others were incorporated as a means of streamlining the com- plex network. “We used to have two buses, one from Dallas El- ,ementary and one from. Westmoreland, picking up kids in | the same neighborhoods but that has been eliminated,” said Susan Farr, Transportation Manager. “Now we will have one bus going to each area dropping off students at . both schools.” A complete index of street list- parents with determining the ap- propriate bus numbers and sched- ules. “All parents have to dois find the street they live on printed in the index,” tell them the bus number and the approximate time of arrival.” The process has been simpli~ fied for students also. “In most cases, with a few exceptions, stu- dents will be going home on the same bus that brought them to school,” said Farr. Payne (continued from page 1) tension was not something she had pursued. “This has been brought up to me many times in the last year; it was not my idea,” she said. “I stand on my record. I have never paid anyone for a job and I never will.” : The question of just who did approach Williams with the offer of a contract extension was not : directly answered. “It was my idea, - and the idea of a few other board members, to bring this up at the July meeting,” said Moderno , Rossi, school board president. “It takes five votes to get any motion approved so I'm not the only one . who was in favor of extending Mrs. Williams contract.” DALLAS - The Dallas School ‘ings has been compiled to assist said Farr. “That will | Now you can send items to The Dallas Post by e-mail at: dalpost@aol.com typesetting, production and printing. )e » 8 DO oS 4 ; } The Committee to Elect A l . ° Atty.
