) § The Dallas Post a Section 2 August 11, 1999 Sports McCabe racing for national points title Jim McCabe, who works at Hanover Ornamental Ironworks in Dallas, is lead- ing the national point standings in the 125cc Sprint Shifter class of the World Karting Association. McCabe won his class at Summit Point Raceway the last week- end in July, and earlier in the year at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. His next race will be Aug. 14 in St. Louis. Boys entering grades 6, 7-and 8 participated in games for several weeks. Coaches were Chuck Wilson, Lew Thomas, Mary Durr, George Gracely, Russ Eyet and Dan Mulhern. Organizers Plains does in BMT National in Kubis Eventual champion Plains advanced into the championship series against Mountaintop with a 6-3 victory over Back Mountain National last Tuesday evening. The pitching of Jim Depetro and Chris Sedon limited the National offense to just four hits. Plains took a two-run lead in the top of the second inning before Back Mountain National answered with two of its own in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2. Nate Carr and Ron Shiner each walked with one out. Matt Kapitula then singled home Carr while Shiner advanced to third. Gracjan Kraszweski then hit an RBI groundout. Plains then scored four times in its next at-bat to give the team a lead it would not relinquish. Nate Carr scored the final Back Moun- tain run after he doubled and made it home safely on an outfield error. Kapitula finished with two hits and took the loss on the mound. This avenged an earlier loss in*the tournament for Plains when it lost to Back Mountain National by a score of 12-6. National captured third place with the loss. Plains went on to defeat Mountaintop on consecutive nights Wednesday and Thursday by scores of 10-8 and 14-1. 8/9 BOYS Back Mountain American 13, Back Mountain National 10 In an exhibition game in the truest sense, American rallied from a three-run deficit to go up by six in the bottom of the fifth inning and then held on for a three- run win over National this past Saturday. This game was played in place of the Back Mountain 8/9 tournament because teams from other leagues could not field a com- plete team of nine players. Regional teams Patton will from New England, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New York will : play for three days at Wake Forest University, North Carolina in the Blue Grey Classic. He was selected after participating in a showcase event in Pittsburgh He is the son of Richard and Holly Patton, Harveys Lake. Rich will be a senior at Lake-Lehman this fall where he plays baseball and football. He also played for the Back Mountain Legion team.
