Subtitled "A Love Story in Blank Verse," the book contains text and art by Palance, who lives in Drums. years with auction I starting working with the Library Auction about 35 years ago when I was freshman at Dallas high School. My first was working with Mrs. Mitchell Jenkins, Antique Chairman, by setting the tables up and doing odd jobs for her. I was a member of Dallas Key Club and our job was to set all tents up and move the merchanddise to different booths and feed the auction block. I can remember selling chickens, fur coats, and new cars in those early years. From there I was in charge children’s games (fun booth). The most popular game was plush toys stand. One year I marched in Scranton with the Dallas High School drill team at noon, then came back and worked at the auction until 2 a.m. Then we moved Main Street I helped with manning the barn as merchandise was coming in. I also was a feeder for the auction and served as co-chairman for Celebrity Auction. At that time Ladies’ Day was Friday afternoon of the auction week. That's when we sold lots of yard goods, linens and ladies’ apparel. Before the auction started, we had a chicken barbecue at Gate of Heaven as a kickoff. This year is my biggest challenge by being grounds chairman and traffic chairman. As grounds chairman, I have to be sure everything is ready to go before bidding. The auction is a great place to see new and old friends. I just enjoy being busy helping make the auction huge success for children in Back Mountain.
