Kaplanski of Hunlock Creek celebrated their first anniversary on Sunday, June 20 with a trip to Paradise 1 Stream in the Poconos. They were married by the Reverend 1 William Kennard in Alderson United Methodist Church, Harveys - ‘Lake. 1 Twila Scott-Kaplanski is the daughter of David C. and Viola Scott of Harveys Lake. She is employed by Davis Trophies in Sweet Valley. Paul is the son of Paul F. and Peggy Kaplanski of Trucksville. He is employed by Redners Warehouse Markets in Edwardsville. Training program for volunteers set ‘Applications are now available for the summer Candy Striping ‘program for teens at the Meadows Nursing Center. The session begins with orientation on June 23 and June 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. Teens can choose either date. Uniforms will be provided by the Meadows. Students can assist the activities and nursing departments with various assignments during the day, evenings or weekends. Please call the Volunteer Department at 675-8600, Ext. 138 to register. v LESLIE ANNE DEWEES Leslie Anne Dewees accepted at Leysin American School Leslie Anne Dewees, daughter of Fred and Marge Déwees of Dal- las, has received notification of her acceptance into the Summer International Program for Stud- ies at the Leysin American School in Switzerland. Joining 175 stu- dents from more than 20 coun- tries, she will be studying theatre and dance in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. The school offers a multifaceted inte- grated performing and fine arts program, providing students with top professional coaching in the- atre, dance, chorus and the fine arts. Leslie has completed her fresh- man year at Wyoming Seminary where she is a dean’s list student and a member of chorus, Blue Key and Aids Awareness Group. She was a member of stage crew for their recent Shakespeare pro- duction and has been selected as a Seminary representative for the Class of 2000 Junior Leadership Wilkes-Barre. She studies piano with Dr. Ellen Flint and is a vocal student of Ms. Sue Kelly at the Wilkes Conservatory. Leslie is a Company member of Ballet North- east and was a featured soloist in their recent production of Cinderella. For the past three years she has studied ballet with Peter and Kristen Degnan at the Degnan Ballet Center and at En- core at Wilkes University. She has appeared regularly in local community theatre with the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre and the Music Box Dinner Theatre. Leslie is a two time winner of the Healey Music Competition and a three time winner of the Eisteddfod in vocal performance. She was this year’s second place finisher, junior division, of the Wyoming Valley Poetry Society Contest held in conjunction with the Fine Arts Fiesta. Dallas Twp. class plans 50th reunion ‘The Dallas Township High School Class of 1949 is planning its 50th reunion to be held Saturday, September 4, at the Irem Temple Country Club. The celebration is an opportunity for classmates and family to gather for an evening of reminiscing and renewing friendships. Guests attending this memorable night include Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dolbear, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mulderig (Mary Vahey), and Mr. and Mrs. William Carroll, (Dorothy Teresinsky). Kingston Township reminds residents that dumping of grass clippings is a violation of the Kingston Township Vector Con- trol Ordinance. Grass clippings are not to be dumped in neighborhoods or on the street because they can cause odors and rodent prolems. If desposited on streets they can block storm drains.
