Add to that our outstand- ing senior leadership and it's no surprise we're on the verge of re- turning to the playoffs,” Straka said. Straka’s Mountaineers re- turned three key seniors from a team that made it toregionals last season after finishing second at © districts. Captain Justin Hoover is a proven center who was part of the team that finished 10-2 and qualified for the four-team dis- trict tournament as the fourth seed. SPORTS ROUNDUP Knights come back to stomp Dallas Down 6-1, Lake-Lehman ex- ploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning and added five more in the seventh to beat Dallas 13-6 Monday at Dallas. John Habrack had kept the Black Knights under control through five innings, but Lehman got to him in the sixth. Rich Patton opened the big sixth with a solo home run, Chris Navin hit a two- run homer, and D.J. Kapson’'s single drove in two more. Kapson also had a double in the game. Patton ended the afternoon 3-for- 3 with three rbi, as the Knights made the most of nine hits. For the Mounts, Josh Dukas was 2- for-3 and Habrack was 2-for-4 with a pair of rbi. J.J. Smith and Jeremy Harris each had doubles. Greg Woronko picked up the win for Lehman, striking out eight, while Matt Montgomery got a save. Randy Knappman took the loss, coming in to relieve Habrack. SOCCER Dallas 4, O'Reilly 0 Holly Shiber scored the first goal and Laura Loeffler took care of the rest as the Lady Mounts blanked O'Reilly. Jen Toth, Jesse Tarity and Jeanie Dreier had as- sists, and Melonie Sappe stopped 10 O'Reilly shots in goal. Coughlin 2, Lehman 0 The Lady Knights couldn't find the goal on any of their 11 shots May 10. Trish Pilosi had seven saves in goal, and Lehman had only two corners. Dallas 1, Bishop Hoban 0 Jeanie Dreier scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half to give the Moun- taineers the win. Keeper Melonie Sappe made 4 saves to preserve the shutout. BASEBALL Hanover 6, Lehman 2 Rich Patton went 3-4 with an RBI for the Black Knights, but it wasn't enough as Hanover earned eight hits to earn a 6-2 victory: Lehman 9, Wyoming Area 8 After surrendering 3 runs in the top of the ninth inning, Leh- man rallied with four of its own to earn an extra-inning win over the Warriors. Matt Loftus scored on a Rich Patton single for the win. D.J. Kapson went 3-4 with 2 RBI for the Knights. Chris Navin went 3-5 with a homerun and three runs scored. Dallas 7, Crestwood 5 Dallas scored seven unan- swered runs after falling behind John Habrack threw strong for five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth. 5-0 to defeat the Comets. A three- run rally in the bottom of the sixth for Dallas proved to be enough. Randy Knappman earned the mound win. John Habrack hit a three-run homerun and earned the Dallas save. SOFTBALL Lehman 2, Hoban 1 Lake-Lehman won a squeaker to stay on top of the Class AA standings when Jen Johnstone doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Michelle Alters scattered eight hits over six in- nings and struck out seven to claim the win. Tricia Kernag pitched a scoreless seventh and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Lehman 3, Nanticoke 2 Lehman scored three times in the top of the fifth to come from . behind and defeat Nanticoke. Michelle Alters earned the win and Tricia Kernag earned the save by pitching the final two innings. Crestwood 8, Lehman 5 Crestwood scored a total of eight runs in the fourth and fifth in- nings to really back from 4 runs down to beat the Knights. Jen Johnstone and Vicki Groff each went 2-4 with a double. A’s 15, Indians 12 Michael Rudick got the victory and Adam Singer struck out 5 in relief for the A's. Derrick Elston had 3 hits and Jonathan Stevens had 2 for the winners. For the Indians, Nick Oschman struck out 8 while Jon Baker rapped 2 doubles. Orioles 8, A’s 4 Zach Polin powered the Oriole offense with 2 hits, including a double. For the A’s, Jonathan Stevens had 3 hits, including a triple while Josh Reese and Jer- emy Weinstock each doubled. Tigers 9, A’s 9 The A’s scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game. Adam King, Brian Feleccia and David Shultz combined for 10 strikeouts for the Tigers. Justin Orlandini and Matt Oliveri each had 2 hits while Shultz smacked a home run for the Tigers. For the A’s, Jonathan Stevens, Mike Rudick and Jeremy Weinstock each had 2 hits. Giants 14, Pirates 2 David Harding pitched and batted the Giants to victory. On the mound, he struck out 9. At the plate, he had 4 hits and 4 RBIs. Gracjan Kraszewski led the Pirates with a double and a triple. A’s 11, Rangers 4 Jonathan Stevens struck out 4 Rangers to get the victory. Der- rick Elston led the A's attack by going 4 for 4 with 2 triples and a double. Stevens, Adam Singer and Jeremy Weinstock each went 2 for 4 with Singer and Weinstock getting doubles. Curt Montz and Robert Hayes also doubled. For the Rangers, Ken Chamberlain, Brandon Rice, Chris Kester and Joe Bailey each had 2 hits with Chamberlain smacking a triple and Rice a double. Matt Nobile also doubled. On the mound, Chamberlain struck out 9. Reds 10, Rangers 3 Ryan Bloom and Luke Marchakitus each smacked 3 hits with Bloom hitting a 3-run homer and Marchakitus a double. Jake Stryjewski, John Parulski and Pat Foley each had 2 hits, including a double. Styjewski struck out 7 Rangers. For the Rangers, Matt Nobile had 4 hits while Chris Kester and Joe Bailey had 2 hits apiece, with Kester picking up a double. Dodgers 11, Reds 7 Ron Shiner and Ben Thomas combined to strike out 10 for the Dodgers. Mike Clemente had 2 hits and 4 RBIs for the winners while Alex Flack and Brendan Delaney tripled and Thomas doubled. For the Reds, Luke Marchakitus had 3 hits, includ- ing 2 doubles, and Ryan Bloom had a double. Dodgers 5, Pirates 3 Mike Davies snared a line drive with 2 out and the bases full in the 6th inning to preserve the Dodger victory. Ron Shiner and Ben Tho- mas combined to strike out 5 Pirates. Shiner’s triple led the Dodger offense. : Tigers 6, Yankees 3 Adam King struck out 8 Yan- kees and went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple to lead the Tigers. David Shultz added a double. For the Yankees, Steve Fritz and Cale Charney combined for 9 strikeouts while Fritz went 3 for 4 with a triple. Cardinals 14, Indians 5 Patrick McMahon, who com- ‘bined with Dylan Seeley to strike out 9 Indians, went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles to lead the Cardinal of- fense. Matt Fuhr had 3 hits and Matt Straub got 2. Sean Leary smoked 2 doubles while Seeley had 1. For the Indians, Nick Oschman, ‘Jon Baker and Kyle Lewis each doubled with Baker also getting a single. Astros 8, Cardinals 6 The Astros scored twice in the 6th inning to get the victory. Scott Carter and Jason Demnicki com- bined for 8 strikeouts for the win- ners. On offense, Demnicki had 2 hits and John Janerich had a double. For the Cardinals, Matt Straub struck out 11 in 5 innings of pitching. Straub also smacked a triple while Dylan Seeley got 2 doubles and Sean Leary had 2 singles. SOFTBALL Dodgers 15, A’s 5 (10 innings) Sara Brown struck out 11 to get the win. Joanna Walp went 2 for 3 with 2 triples for the Dodg- ers. White Sox 16, Phillies 6 Sheree Horvath struck out 8 in 3 innings of no-hit pitching for the White Sox. Horvath, Lauren Pyskoty, Jessica English and Maggie Guntli each had 2 hits with Horvath and Pyskoty collect- ing doubles for the winners DYB girls win Rogers tournament Shannon Thomas led all scorers with a game high 12 points to help lead Dallas Youth Basketball to a 43-32 championship victory over Pittston Lumber. Other members of Dallas Youth Basketball contributing were Jackie Hardwick 9 points, Meredith Lacey 6 points, Halli Williams, Rosalyn Wentko 4 points apiece, Ashleigh King, Brooke Blase, Caitlin Dukas and Kristy Schmid 2 points each. Lauren Suppon played a strong defensive game for Dallas Youth Basketball. Dallas Youth Basketball defeated Meyers 34-30 in the semi-finals led by Shannon Thomas with a game high 10 points, followed by Jackie Hardwick, Meredith Lacey 6 points apiece, Ashleigh King 5 points, Halli Williams 3 points, Rosalyn Wentko and Lauren Suppon 2 points each, Contributing defensively were Brooke Blase, Caitlin Dukas and Kristy Schmid.
